THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUNTH PACIFIC CEI44 LAB 2 Introduction to Network

Hardware NAME: MOFFET GAGAHE STUDENT ID: S11181848 COURSE CODE: CEI44 DUE
DATE: 13 Jun 2021 CAMPUS: SOLOM0N ISLANDS CEI44 LAB 2 Introduction to Network
Hardware Though, the important networking hardware accessible today is frequently
somewhat different in The netstat convenience affords access to pledges reserved by
the link level level of the we do have visibly incrustation web servers and it
is appropriate to device the virtualization of the FPGA material as a shared resource. 1.

Hubs - A Hub is a networking device that permits you to connect multiple PCs to a

single network, whereas a Switch connects various devices together on a single
computer network. A Hub functions on the physical layer, whereas Switch operates on
the data link layer. 2. Switches - Switches are key building chunks for any network. They
connect multiple devices, such as computers, wireless access points, printers, and
servers; on the same network within a building or campus.

A switch enables connected devices to share information and talk to each other. 3.
Bridges – A bridge is a device that connects two networks so that they act as if they're
one network. Bridges are used to partition one large network. Gateways are usually
more multipart than switch or router, router It is also known as bridging router is a
device which combines features of both bridge and router.

Working as router, it is expert of routing packets across networks and working as bridge,

it is capable of filtering local area network traffic. 4. Routers - Active routing uses several
algorithms and protocols. The most popular are Routing Info Protocol RIP and Open
Shortest Path First OSPF. Dynamic routing protocols allow routers to share information
about the network with other routers to allow them to select the best path to reach a
destination. 5.

Gateways - A gateway is a node router in a computer network, a key ending point for

data on its way to or from other networks. In a workplace, the gateway is the computer
that routes traffic from a workstation to the outside network that is serving up the Web
pages. 6. CSU/DSU Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit - A CSU/DSU Channel Service
Unit/Data Service Unit is a hardware device that converts a digital data frame from the
infrastructures technology used on a local area network LAN into a frame proper to a
wide-area network (WAN) and vice versa.

The channel service unit CSU is responsible for the connection to the wire network,

though the data service unit DSU is responsible for working the interface with the DTE. A
CSU/DSU can have an externally connection point, or it can be joined into a modular
card installed in a router. 7. NICs Network Interface Card - A network line card NIC is a
hardware module without which a computer cannot be connected over a network.

It is a circuit board installed in a computer that runs a devoted network connection to

the computer. It is also called network interface controller, network adapter or
LAN adapter. 8. ISDN Integrated Services Digital Network adapters - Integrated Services
Digital Network ISDN is a set of message standards for simultaneous digital
transmission of voice. A network interface card connects your computer to a local
data network or the Internet.

The card translates computer data into electrical signals it sends through the network;

the signals are compatible with the network so computers can reliably exchange
information. 9. WAPs Wireless Access Point - A Wireless Access Point (WAP) can be ideal
if you're finding that the Wi-Fi signal emitted by your basic router. Use the terminal
command “ipconfig/ all” to read the address data of your local network.

The terminal output contains information about the Windows IP configuration and all
local system network adapters. Step 3: With Windows, the MAC address is displayed
under “physical address. 10. Modems - A modem is the device that allows you to access
the internet and cable service in your home.

A modem uses the cable wires installed by your internet service provider (ISP) to
connect your computers, TVs and other devices to the internet, while a
wireless modem provides access without the physical wires. 11. Transceivers media
converters -  A media converter is a medium for converting short distance electrical
signals and long-distance optical ones.
It is a networking device that you have probably noticed that, in fiber optics, some
components have alike functions. For example, both media converters and optical
transceivers are for photoelectric translation. We are going back to the basics to discuss
the main differences between Media Converters and Optical Transceivers.   12.

Firewalls - A Firewall is a network security device that monitors and filters incoming and
outgoing network traffic based on an organization's earlier recognized security policies.
At its most basic, a firewall is basically the barrier that sits between a private internal
network and the public Internet. REFERENCE
