Paralleling UPS Devices

Paralleling UPS Devices E

N
General
A maximum 3 devices of the following ratings can be connected in parallel:
- GXT2-10000T230
- GXT2-10000R230
The units to be connected in parallel must be of the same type and rating.
Further the settings - if available - of these devices must be identical.
Only GXT2-10000T230: check settings of all parallel units. Item 5 on page
28 shows setup parameters (main menu 5). The settings of
output voltage must be the same.

Designing a parallel system

When connecting mains and loads to a parallel UPS system
additional distribution has to be taken into account.
A system of 2 parallel UPS blocks can be connected directly to the
distribution if the system load doesn’t exceed the nominal power of the
UPS block (configuration: half load, 2 block parallel system)
If the systems load is greater, an external maintenance bypass has to be
installed (Recommendation of a parallel configuration please see Fig. P-1 on
next page).
GXT2-10000T230 configured as parallel system may use only
common mains supply (means: put in jumper between input terminals
mains 1 and reserve (mains 2).

Parallel system, installation and operating

E
First step N
Ensure, that the mains supply distribution is switched OFF.
Ensure that all the mains1/mains2 input breakers are switched to “OFF” on
all UPSs. Mains 2 breaker is available on GXT2-10000T230 only.
All terminals, breakers and plugs of UPS can be found the respective rear
panels of UPS/batteries. Related figures:
GXT2-10000T230 see Fig. 3-5 on page 19.
GXT2-10000R230 see Fig. 3-1 on page 13.

Second step
Remove jumper from Parallel Terminals (S1, S2) of the UPS terminal block,
then connect the input terminals of all UPS blocks to the mains distribution.
Next, connect the UPS output terminals to the load distribution.

Third step
Dismantle cover of the parallel port of all parallel devices for linking between
the UPS, use the 25 pin standard control cable to connect to one of the
parallel ports (the cable is supplied with the UPS).
Parallel UPS are connected in line, not in a circle. I.e: 2 cables connect 3 UPS
units, 1 cable connects 2 UPS.

Fourth step
- Close all the parallel UPS input breakers (2 breakers for T230, 1
breaker for R230) of all parallel UPSs then
- close the mains distribution switch, all bypass indicators illuminate
simultaneously.
T230 only: press the “MENU” button, select submenu “Control” and
press “OK”, select submenu “Turn UPS ON/OFF” and press “OK”, the
LCD displays “Turn UPS to ONLINE” then press “OK”, the UPS system is
now waiting in bypass mode (see Fig. 4-2 on page 24).
Now please close Output switch of UPS.
R230 only: Wait for at least 30 seconds until the output voltage has
stabilized (yellow LED illuminated). Press the button on the UPS control
panel for a minimum of 1 second to switch on the inverter (see “Control
Panel” on page 18).

In addition to the “LINE” and “BYPASS” LEDs the “LOAD” LED is now
illuminated. After a few seconds the “INVERTER” LED is illuminated and
the “BYPASS” LED is extinguished. The UPS is now in ON-LINE operation.
T230 and R230: Repeat the UPS start-up procedure on the second and
on third UPS, if present. At this point all the bypass indicators are
extinguished. All inverter indicators illuminate indicating that all parallel UPS
inverters are running, and ready to supply the load.

Fifth step
Connect the load to the UPS output distribution and each UPS LCD display
(T230) or LED display (R230) indicates the same load value.
The load is spread evenly across all the UPS.
