ABSTRACT
The activities of Pb-210 and Cs-137 were measured in a sediment core collected from the
north-west region of Guanabara Bay, Brazil. On the basis of Pb-210 geochronology, a sedimenta-
tion rate of 2 cm year-1 was estimated for the area in recent times. The Cs-137 activity was below
the detection limit (0.2~.8 mBq g 1) in all depths of the core.
