STEP 1 – BUILD THE DECK FRAME
Measure, mark, and cut 2x4s to length and construct as shown, attaching with 2 ½ inch exterior wood
screws.

STEP 2 – ATTACH THE DECKING
Measure, mark, and cut 1x4 decking to length and attach to deck frame with 1 ¼ inch exterior wood
screws.

STEP 3 – BUILD THE SIDES
Measure, mark, and cut 2x4s to length. All angles and bevels should be cut at ≈ 75 degrees off square. Drill
1 ½ inch pocket holes the 2x4s and attach with 2 ½ inch exterior pocket screws. Notice that the sides are
attached to the deck ¾ inch inset from the back edge and both sides.

STEP 4 – ATTACH THE BACK RAILS
Measure, mark, and cut 2x4s to length. Drill 1 ½ inch pocket holes into the ends of the 2x4 rails and attach
to sides and deck with 2 ½ inch exterior pocket screws.

STEP 5 – ATTACH THE FRONT BOARDS
Measure, mark, and cut 2x4s to length. Drill 1 ½ inch pocket holes and construct, as shown, with 2 ½ inch
exterior pocket screws.

STEP 6 – ATTACH THE SIDING
Measure, mark, and cut 1x6s to length. Attach to side frame with 1 ¼ inch exterior brad nails and exterior
wood glue. For the top two angled boards, it is easiest to hold the boards in place, mark the line, and cut
to fit.

STEP 7 – ATTACH THE BACK SIDING
Measure, mark, and cut 1x6 planks to length and attach to the sides with 1 ¼ exterior brad nails and
exterior wood glue. The top board will have to be ripped to approx. 2 3/8 inches wide. Again, hold the
board in place, mark the line, and then rip the board to fit.

STEP 8 – ATTACH THE FRONT SIDING
Measure, mark, and cut 1x6 planks to length and attach with 1 ¼ exterior brad nails and exterior wood
glue. Again, rip the top board to size – hold in place, mark, then rip to width.

STEP 9 – ATTACH FRONT PLANKS
Measure, mark, and cut 1x2 trim to length and attach to the doghouse with 1 ¼ inch exterior brad nails
and exterior wood glue.

STEP 10 – BUILD THE CANOPY
Measure, mark, and cut 2x2s to length. Attach to doghouse as shown with 2 ½ inch exterior wood screws.
Space the top 2x2s approx. 1 7/8 inches apart. There will be a 1 ¼ inch overhang on both sides.

STEP 11 – ATTACH THE ROOF SUPPORT
Measure, mark, and cut 2x4 to length. Drill 1 ½ inch pocket holes into the ends, position in the center as
shown, and attach with 2 ½ inch exterior pocket screws.

STEP 12 – ATTACH ROOF
Measure, mark, and cut 1x6 boards to length. Attach to doghouse with 1 ¼ inch exterior wood screws or 1
¼ inch exterior brad nails and exterior wood glue. There will be about a 3 inch overhang on the front and a
¾ inch overhang on both sides.

Sand, stain or paint as desired, and finish with an exterior-grade finish.
