Consonance = how well a frequency can match with another frequency to sound similar or match.

Octave = there are 12 notes per octave

Major and minor = there are always 7 notes

Major scale = follows the pattern of 1 tone, 1 tone,1/2 tone, 1 tone, 1 tone, 1 tone, ½ tone or 1, 1 ,1/2,
1, 1, 1, ½

Minor scale = follows the pattern of 1 tone, 1/2 tone,1 tone, 1 tone, 1/2 tone, 1 tone, 1 tone or 1, ½, 1,
1, 1/2, 1, 1

Modes = are patterns used to find major or minor scales

Chord = a set of notes played together

Triads are made of 3 notes 1 being the root, then a 3rd and a 5th
Happy note = root + major 3rd + perfect 5th
Sad note = root + minor 3rd + perfect 5th
Bright cord = root + augmented 5th
Dark cord = root + diminished 5th
Power cord = root + 5th

M= Major, m = minor,

Chord progression rules = 1st note and the 5th note have a special relationship a 5th note wants to go
back to a 1st note. The 5th note is considered TESNSION while the 1st note is considered
RESOLUTION.

Authentic cadence; Triad minor + M + M = Resolution


Half Cadance; Triad Major + m + M = Tension
Deceptive/Interrupted cadence; Triad Minor + M + m = Used to shift the mood
Plegal Cadance; Triad Major + M = Conclusive without the conclusion
