Connections Activity: Chapter 9

1. If you could ask any question about anything, what would you ask?

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

2. If you could say anything (make a statement), what would you say?

The world will always be in a state of repair and has never not been.

3. What advantages and disadvantages do you see to an open inquiry-based writing project?

The advantages that I see to an open inquiry-based writing project are a detailed approach

to finding the answer to a question or finding supporting information that could form

some kind of an answer to a question. The only disadvantage that I see to an open

inquiry-based writing project is that the answer could be presented vaguely or the

question and answer do not quite match up.

4. Which one or more of Gardner’s “multiple intelligences” do you think you have most?

Linguistic, musical, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal,

intrapersonal, and existential intelligence.

5. Do you agree with Elbow’s statements? Why or why not?

I disagree with his first, second, and third statement because some people simply do not

find pleasure in writing, the same goes for being able to figure out what he or she means

and their ability to get it clear on paper, and lastly, not anyone can write something others

will want to read though there are many niche audiences. I agree with the last statement
because that is the purpose of a teacher, writing teacher anyways, to help students to like

to write, and to be more forceful and articulate in using writing in their lives.

6. What might stop you from really pursuing something this semester that is interesting

and/or useful to you?

What might stop me from really pursuing something this semester that is interesting

and/or useful to me is general laziness, procrastination, and also hesitation or second

guessing myself. Also, the possibility of choosing an easier subject over a more

complicated one. Forsaking my own growth due to an Occam’s razor-like situation.
