NPC References

About this project

NPC References is a set of printables that will assist you in
coming up with characteristics that make your characters
memorable and documenting them.

How to use the references

To use these pocket references, you can either print them and
then write directly on them, or you can first fill in the fields on
the fillable pdf before printing them. There are two main
ways you can come up with new characters.
Create-Document NPCs Quickly
When you create a character that isn't of great importance,
you don't need more than three or so traits that make the
character memorable and unique. Just fill in a few of the
character fields.
Create-Document Detailed NPCs
Sometimes you may need a character with a lot of depth.
For that kind of characters, you can fill in more than three
character fields to further flesh out the character. Remember
though, you don't need to use all of the fields for all detailed
characters you create.

The NPC Handbook

If you are looking for sample traits to get ideas, you can get
the NPC Handbook. It's a book of mine that includes sample
traits and tables of ideas for all traits that are mentioned on
these references. (22pages - Over 10 Quadrillion NPC
Combinations). It was ranked 4th most popular product on
the DMSguild. The best part? You can get the NPC Handbook
for free/pay what you want. You can find it here.

How to print the

references
You can use the "Printable References" PDF that is included
in the product folder. The document size is A4. I recommend
printing the references on A4 paper size, using cardstock
paper (any paper that's thicker than classic paper), and using
the "fit to page" printer setting. That setting will ensure that
the two sides are aligned correctly during printing. You can
then just cut the references and you are ready to go.
