I- FLA 1

Direction: Search in the internet on how an early childhood practitioner tries to make the children’s program
age appropriate, individually appropriate, and socio-culturally appropriate. Write the highlights of
their experiences and reflect on it.
Ans:

Early childhood educators must make an effort to learn about the beliefs, desires, and influences
that affect the lives of the children in their care at home and in their communities. This context knowledge
allows each child and family to have positive, important, and respectful learning experiences.
When influencing the learning environment, early childhood educators must consider a variety of
social and cultural influences, as well as the ages of the children and their individual growth. Educators must
also be aware of how their own cultural experiences affect their views and recognize the importance of
including different perspectives when making decisions regarding children's growth and learning.
Early childhood educators must establish reciprocal relationships with the families of the children
they care for. Providers must work with families to learn about each child, build two-way communication
strategies, and form positive relationships with them.
Teachers and child care providers are most successful when they understand how to use a variety
of tactics to address different circumstances. Teachers must consider the child's age, developmental stage,
what they already know, and what their learning objectives are for that situation when determining which
strategy would be most successful. Teachers can adjust their methods to benefit children as required by
being versatile and watching them.

II- Think about It

Direction: Watch a video on DAP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJHFNaJoxMU&ab_channel=ECETP.

Observe a preschool and a classroom for children older than 5 years of age. Describe ways how
the adults use the principle of age appropriateness in terms of materials, activities, and routines in
each classroom.
Ans:
Preschoolers learn best in environments where they can form trusting relationships with loving,
responsive adults, where they feel secure, and where they are free to explore and learn. A well-organized
setting will assist you in meeting the needs of preschool-aged children during play and routines. The video
emphasizes the importance of the environment and gives an overview of what to keep in mind when
designing and managing developmentally acceptable preschool learning environments.
Secure, attentive, and nurturing environments are critical for promoting infants, toddlers, and
preschoolers' learning and development. As a core component of therapies for infants and young children
with known disabilities, such settings often help to discourage challenging behaviors.
The evaluation processes the environment and making necessary adjustments as needed is a
continuous one that caters to the particular needs of infants and toddlers while still valuing their evolving skills
and interests. The world in which infants and toddlers are cared for is never set in stone.

Direction: Read and answer the following questions carefully.

1. What does the acronym DAP in the field of early childhood education stand for? In one sentence, explain
what the phrase means to you when you spell it out. “DAP” – Developmentally appropriate practice
Ans:
Developmentally Appropriate Practice is comprehensive educational perspective that supports
optimal healthy development for every child.
2. Give some general guidelines we can follow as we think about DAP.
Ans:
✓ creating a caring community of learners;
✓ engaging in reciprocal partnerships with families and fostering community connections;
✓ observing, documenting and assessing children’s development and learning;
✓ teaching to enhance each child’s development and learning;
✓ planning and implementing an engaging curriculum to achieve meaningful goals; and
✓ demonstrating professionalism as an early childhood educator.

3. Describe an example of what a DAP activity or interaction looks like with children
Ans:
Two 4-year-old girls are pretending to read menus in the dramatic play area. Clara notices that
neither girl has taken on the role of waiter and asks, “May I take your order?” with a notepad and pencil in
hand. More children enter the restaurant's play over the next few days. Waiters prepare checks for diners,
set tables, take orders, and send orders to the chef.
Clara is a thoughtful, imaginative, and observant tutor. Her initiative encourages children to play new
roles, enrich their social and language experiences, and experiment with writing and math in new ways.
4. List the five guidelines of DAP and explain what each one means in your own words.
Ans:
1. Creating a caring community of learners. This involves creating a healthy environment in the
classroom for students to express themselves, ask questions, and try out new ideas.
2. Teaching to enhance development and learning. This involves recognizing and supporting
each student's unique strengths and challenges.
3. Planning curriculum to achieve important goals. It is building a program for me by first
considering the end result. All that comes before it can be planned, as well as how to get his students to that
target.
4. Assessing children's development and learning. To watch, speak with, and examine each
student's work to determine how they are progressing and where they need additional assistance.
5. And lastly, establishing reciprocal relationships with family. To achieve the best results,
include students' families in the learning process.
