The Inclusion of Korean language in SPFL

The Department of Education assured the public studying of Korean and

other foreign languages is only an option given to students and is not intended to
replace Filipino subject in the basic education curriculum. In a statement released,
DepEd said the study of Korean and other foreign languages is elective and is not part
of the core subjects of 700 students in 10 selected junior high schools in the National
Capital Region (NCR). My question is what are the advantages and dis advantages of
Korean language to be taught in public high schools?

I think the advantages of Korean language are, the Public high school
students will soon be able to learn Korean language in school. The students under the
Special Program in Foreign Language will be expected to develop skills in listening,
reading, writing and speaking the new language. The Department of Education
(DepEd) said. That, “they implemented the Special in Foreign Language (SPFL) to
prepare the graduates in a linguistically, and culturally diverse global workspace.

By that Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL) The Government added

that the training of teachers for the inclusion of Korean language. Only professional
Korean language teachers will train the approved public school’s language teachers.
This is not a beginning. This is a continuation of very long years of fruitful
relationship, including the field of education, between Korea and the Republic of the
Philippines.

As I see, there are disadvantages about the inclusion of Korean language.

Because in this generation, young people loves and idolize Korean Artist, Korean
movies, KPOP and Korean foods. Some young people nowadays, they are support the
culture of the other country like Korea, so there is a possibility to lose their identity as
Filipino in our own country and continue to support the culture of the other country.

As a conclusion, I am not against in Korean language and other Special

Program in Foreign Language, but we must priority and treasure our own language.
But it is also necessary to include Korean language as our second language to become
more globally and competitive.
