Stir Up the Gift

What did Paul mean when he told Timothy to stir up the gift that is in
you? (2 Tim 1:6)

The bible describes Paul and Timothy as sharing a strong, well respected bond in
the brotherhood. In the book 1 Timothy 1:2, Paul refers to Timothy as “My own
son in the faith, and even states in 2 Timothy 1:3, that he had Timothy in prayer
night and day. This sets the stage for the level of care that we should have for
one another, and that as seasoned Christians, we should not hesitate to go a step
further in helping to maintain the spiritual stability of our New Converts. Within
our Christian walk we all need that sense of encouragement from time to time.

Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1:6 “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir
up the gift of God, which is in thee.” Here, Paul is simply reminding Timothy
that he was given a gift at his conversion by the almighty God, and he urges him
to fan his gift into a burning flame for the whole world to see. It is written in 2
Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, of love,
and of a sound mind. Our boldness as Christians should be manifested primarily
through the example of our daily living. Not being lukewarm Christians, but
Christians who stay stirred up in the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Saving souls and keeping souls saved is how this topic is relevant to all Christians.
It is urgent that we stay fired up in doing God’s business. This gives Non-
Christians an example of the joy that they could have if they would only turn
their life over to the Lord and obey the gospel.
