    Valve timing procedures

    NOTE: Timing chain can be changed without dismantling engine. Using the tools listed above, the new chain can be
    linked to the old, passed round the sprockets and then joined.

    Engine at TDC on No.1 cylinder:


    Except Vito/Sprinter - [1] .
    Vito/Sprinter - [2] .
    Ensure camshaft timing marks aligned [3] .
    Remove tensioner assembly before carrying out engine repairs [4] .
    During removal/installation of injection pump: Crankshaft position set at 15° ATDC on No.1 cylinder:
    Except Vito/Sprinter - [5] .
    Vito/Sprinter - [6] .
    Install injection pump sprocket centering tool before removing bolt [7] . Tool No.601589051400.

    NOTE: Injection pump sprocket bolt has LH thread [7] .

    After removal of injection pump, install locking tool [8] . Tool No.601589052100.
    During camshaft sprocket installation: Ensure locating pin remains correctly positioned.
    Fill chain tensioner with oil before installation:
    Submerge tensioner vertically in SAE 10 engine oil with plunger pointing downwards.
    Compress plunger 7-10 times.
    After filling, ensure tensioner plunger can be compressed slowly and evenly.
    Install and tighten tensioner after repairs [4] :
    (A) engine code 601.940/941, 602.940 - 65 Nm.
    (B) except engine code 601.940/941, 602.940 - 80 Nm.
    M11 camshaft sprocket bolt MUST be replaced if length 'X' exceeded [9] . Maximum length: 53,6 mm.
    Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt [10] :
    (A) Bolt classification 10.9 - 320 Nm.
    (B) Bolt classification 8.8 - 200 Nm + 90°.
    (C) Sprinter - 200-220 Nm + 95°.
