Vo = 5V at R =500 Ω and the peak-to-peak output ripple voltage is 20mV. The switching
frequency is 25kHz. If the peak-to-peak ripple current of inductor is limited to 0.8 A, determine
(a) the duty cycle D, (b) the filter inductance L, (c) the filter capacitor C, and (d) the critical
values of L and C. Sketch the circuit diagram and all the waveforms.

Q2. The buck dc-dc converter has the following parameters:
Vs =50 V
D=0.4
L =400uH
C =100uF
f = 20kHz
R =20Ω
Assuming ideal components, calculate (a) the output voltage Vo, (b) the maximum and
minimum inductor current, and (c) the output voltage ripple.

10kHz. The power output is 125W. Determine:

(a) The duty cycle D.

(b) The value of inductor L to limit the peak inductor current to 6.25A.

(c) The value of capacitance to limit the output voltage ripple factor to 0.5%.

Q4. Design a buck converter such that the output voltage is 28V when the input is 48V. The load is
8Ω. Design the converter such that it operates in discontinuous conduction mode. The output
voltage ripple must not be more than 0.5%. Specify the frequency and the values of each
component. Assume ideal components.

Q5. A boost converter is required to have an output voltage of 8V and supply a load current of 1A.
The input voltage varies from 2.7 to 4.2 V. A control circuit adjusts the duty ratio to keep the
output voltage constant. Select the switching frequency. Determine a value for the inductor
such that the variation in inductor current is no more than 40% of the average inductor current
for all operating conditions. Determine a value of an ideal capacitor such that the output voltage
ripple is no more than 2%.

conditions.
(b) Sketch the circuit diagram and following waveforms (Input voltage = 60 V, half-load): Input
& inductor currents, capacitor current, transistor voltage and diode voltage.
