HOME VISIT

Definition: A nursing home visit is a family-nurse contact which allows the health worker to assess the home and family situation in order to provide the necessary
nursing care and health related.

Purpose:

1. To give to the sick, to a post-patient mother and newborn.


2. To assess living condition of patient and his family and their health practice to provide appropriate health teaching
3. To give health teaching regarding prevention and control of disease
4. To make use of the inter-referral system and promote utilization of community service

Principles:
The following principles are essential when performing a home visit to achieve the best results or desired outcomes:
1. A home must have a purpose

2. Planning for home visit should make use of all available information about the patient and his family through family record

3. In planning for a home visit, we should consider and give priority to the essential needs of the individual and his/her family.

4. Planning and delivery of care should involve the individual and family.

5. Plan should be flexible and practical.

The following factors are to be considered regarding the frequency of home visits:

1. The physical, psychological, and educational needs of individual and family

2. The acceptance of family for the service to be rendered, their interest and willingness to cooperate

3. The policy of the specific agency and the emphasis given towards their health program

4. Take into account other health agencies and the number of health personnel already involved in the care of a specific family.

5. The ability of the patient and his/her family to recognize their own needs, their knowledge of available resources, and their ability to make use of their resources for

benefit.

6. Careful evaluation of past services given to the family and how family avails of nursing services.
