1. What is Vajpayee Arogyashree?


Vajpayee Arogyashree is a unique health scheme being implemented by
Government of Karnataka through Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust. The
scheme provides financial assistance to BPL families to meet the
catastrophic health needs.
2. What is the need for Health Scheme?
Health Scheme is an effective model to enable the poor families to avail
quality medical treatment for serious ailments in a cashless manner,
using medical infrastructure in both the private and public hospitals.
3. How much of insurance coverage is provided under the scheme?
The benefit is restricted to only five members of a BPL family in a year.
Sum assured will be Rs.1.50 lakh on a family floater basis per year. In
special cases additional amount of Rs.50, 000/- per year for the entire
family on a case to case basis is available.
4. Who are the beneficiaries under the scheme?
All the BPL families certified and issued by Civil Supplies Department
are eligible.
5. What are diseases covered in Vajpayee Arogyashree ?
The following are the 7 Diseases that are covered under Vajpayee
Arogyashree. The Benefit Package under the Scheme currently covers
402 tertiary care procedures

6. What about coverage for other diseases?
The existing Government Medical Infrastructure from PHC, CHC, Area
Hospital, District Hospital and Specialty Hospitals can effectively provide
free Treatment for other diseases.
7. Who is implementing the programme?
Government of Karnataka through Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust is
implementing the Programme.
8. Who is paying the premium?
The entire premium is paid by the Government on behalf of the BPL
families
9. Is there any enrolment to be done to avail the benefits?
No. There is no separate enrolment, all the BPL families holding valid
BPL card are automatically covered from the day of implementation of
the scheme
10. Can all the Hospitals in the state provide treatment under the scheme?
No, Treatment can be availed only at empaneled Network Hospitals. As
cashless treatment under the scheme is provided to beneficiary in a
Network Hospital, Trust after due verification of Infrastructure will
empanel the hospital as a Network Hospital under the scheme. This is
done to ensure quality treatment for the patient. The list of network
hospitals with the specialties is available with Arogyamithra. You can
also avail this information by calling toll free number 1800 102 8330
11. Is there any person who will help me in the hospitals?
Yes. A facilitator called Arogyamithra will be available in all the
Network hospitals to register, facilitate the treatment and guide you for
all the services. Arogyamithras are also available in PHC / CHC / Area
Hospital / District Hospital and other government hospitals and in the
health camps to facilitate examination, screening and referral.
Arogyamithras are also placed at network hospital to guide and
facilitate cashless treatment in the network hospital.
12. How Can I recognize Arogyamithra?
Arogyamithras are provided with an apron for easy identification and
will be sitting at Arogyashree kiosk, a special help desk situated at
reception in the hospital.
13. What are the other services provided by Arogyamithra?
He / She receives you in the network hospital, counsels you, verifies
your BPL card, takes the digital photograph of you, facilitates you for
consultation with doctor and admission in the hospital. Facilitates the
hospital to send pre-authorization for your surgery / treatment. He
works in coordination with VAMCO for the above services.
Arogyamithra will also counsel and follow-up the patient on the need of
follow-up and available package for the same at the time of discharge.
14. How can I avail the benefits under the scheme?
You can avail the benefits of the scheme by approaching any PHC / CHC
/ Area Hospital / District Hospital or any of the government hospitals
nearer to you or any health camp being conducted. You can also
approach the any of the network hospital directly in case of Emergency.
15. Will I be taken care properly at the hospitals?
Yes. Arogyamithra will facilitate your registration, admission and
treatment in the hospital. Vajpayee Arogyashree Medical Coordinator
(VAMCO), an identified doctor in the hospital will facilitate online
approvals and treatment in the hospital.
16. What is meant by cashless treatment?
All the hospital services from initial evaluation, identification of disease
and treatment for the listed diseases is totally cashless under the
scheme. Patient need not pay any amount for these services under the
scheme.
17. Do I need to pay the hospital if my initial tests do not confirm the
identified disease under the scheme?
No. Even after initial tests, if the disease is not confirmed, you need not
pay the hospital, as initial evaluation for identified diseases is free
under the scheme
18. How can I proceed if initial medical tests conducted suggest that I am
not suffering from any of the identified diseases?
After free initial evaluation if it is found that the disease is not covered
under Vajpayee Arogyashree, either you can approach any government
hospital or you may continue treatment in the same hospital on
payment for further treatment.
19. Will I be provided food during hospitalization?
Yes. You will be provided food during hospitalization as part of
treatment under the package
20. Am I entitled for any transport charges from the hospital?
Yes. Transportation charges will be provided.
21. Can I get information on type of specialty services available in a
hospital?
You can get information on the type of specialty services through toll
free number 1800 102 8330. You can also contact Arogyamithra at PHC/
CHC / Area Hospital / District Hospital / network hospital nearer to you
for information.
22. What is toll free number?
Toll free number 1800 102 8330 is specifically maintained by Trust to
assist you through call centre. The calls made to this number are not
charged to you, hence it is free call.
23. What is a call centre? How it is useful for me?
Call centre is a place where you can register any complaint or get
information about Vajpayee Arogyashree Scheme. The toll free number

24. What is Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust?
Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust is an independent Trust constituted by
government of Karnataka under the chairmanship of Hon'ble C.M.
25. Under whose supervision is the scheme being implemented?
Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust, is an independent Trust constituted by
government of Karnataka . The day to day activities are supervised by
the Executive Director of the Trust.
