Title: Design a suitable Cross-Drainage work as per the given data.

Objective: The objective of this Problem is to familiarize the students with the Cross-Drainage
works (the disposal of canal water intercepting the drainage).

Project Details: In this project students are required to Design a suitable Cross-Drainage work
as per the given data. Assume any missing data.
Given Data:
For Canal
Full Supply Discharge (FSQ) = 354 + R/5 m3/s
Bed Width   = 24 m
Full Supply Level (FSL)   = 207.60 + R/8 m
Canal Bed Level (CBL) = 201.4 + R/10 m
Side Slopes   = 1/2H:1V
For Natural Drainage
High Flood Discharge (HFQ) = 21189 + R/8 ft3/s
Drainage Bed Level   = 203.6 + R/10 m
High Flood Level (HFL) = 206.3 + R/5 m

Whereas R means Registration No. of the Group leader.

Complex Problem Attributes:
Depth of knowledge required Cannot be resolved without in-depth
engineering knowledge.
Range of conflicting requirements Involve wide-ranging or conflicting
technical, Engineering, and other issues.
Depth of analysis required Have no obvious solution and require
abstract thinking and originality in
analysis to formulate suitable models.
Familiarity of issues Involve infrequently encountered issues.
Interdependence High level problems including many
component parts or sub-problems.

Constraints: Complex Engineering Problem must be completed by following the given below
constraints:
● Project must be completed like a Report comprising of Chapters having Introduction,
Literature Review, Methodology/Procedure*, Results*, Conclusions and Lastly
References.
● Report must be properly Formatted (Justified using Times New Roman having size 14 for
Headings and 12 for Text)
● Project must be done in groups using group leader’s roll number.
● Calculations on excel will be encouraged.

Project Deliverables:
a. Complete Report
b. Design Calculations
c. Viva and/or Presentations.

* Must include:
 Design of Canal Waterway
 Design of Drainage waterway
 Design of Bed levels along the Drainage trough
 Design of Transitions
 Design of Trough
 Head loss through syphon barrels
 Uplift pressure on Roof barrels
 Design of Roof barrels
 Uplift on Bottom floor of syphon barrels
 Design of Cut-offs and Protection works for canal floor.
