Volvo penta easy COnnect


Volvo Penta Easy Connect
Volvo Penta Easy Connect aims to improve boating experience for Volvo Penta boat users by allowing access to boat and engine
data. Volvo Penta Easy Connect consists of two major parts, the app and the hardware interface. To be able to use the services
offered, you need to link the Easy Connect app to your boat. This guide describes how to connect and operate the Easy Connect
app.

NOTE! This application is not for navigation purposes, it is only for viewing boat and engine data. All data is locally stored, and can
only be shared actively by the user.

System status LED Codes


The installed Bluetooth interface receives the system status. Refer to table for LED codes. To receive a proper status, the bluetooth
interface should be installed and connected to your Easy Connect app in your smartphone or tablet and boat ignition switched on.

Install app
Download and install the Easy Connect app, which is available on the App Store.

Make sure that the bluetooth function is activated on your smartphone or tablet and the boat ignition switched on. Follow the
instructions below to connect Easy Connect to your boat.

Connecting Easy Connect to your boat

Run the app. A disclaimer page displays.Tap OK or Don’t show this


message again.

First time you run the app New Vessel page appears, asking to
set up your boat information.

Tap Add photo to upload a photo from your photo library and Boat
and Dealer e-mail to enter information.

If you want to Change/Add new vessel information tap the menu


symbol , then tap Boat details or Dealer under Boat Info.

Tap to select Installation type; EVC or NonEVC depending on the


hardware interface kit installed in your boat. Default is EVC.

Tap the menu symbol under Settings, tap NMEA2000 Gate-


way to Enable or Disable the NMEA2000 Gateway transmitting of
data.

Set to Disable if you have an EVC installation with Volvo Penta


Glass Cockpit (7600/8600 series). Default is Enabled.

If Installation type is set to NonEVC, the EVC Gateway will be


Unavailable to select because gateway shall not transmit data to
engine bus (J1939).

Tap the menu symbol , then tap Boat details.

Tap Easy Connect Interface to choose your interface NMEA2000


EASY CONNECT and a passcode security message appears.

Tap Connect and bond with NMEA/Easy Connect.

Enter your six-digit bluetooth code printed on the NMEA/Easy


Connect interface label, then tap Pair (only necessary the first time
you pair with the interface).

If you tap Cancel on the passcode security message, to connect:


Tap on the menu symbol and then the photo in the menu
page.

Tap on the boat you wish to connect to and passcode security


message appears.

Tap Connect and bond with NMEA/Easy Connect and enter your
six-digit passcode.
App Overview

When starting the app, Captains view Dashboard is shown (My view in smartphone). To return to the side menu tap the
symbol. There are four main views:

• Home view is the offboard view. It shows information from your latest journey and gives access to saved routes and boat data
without being connected to the boat.

• Captain view is only available when you are onboard and connected to your boat/engine and shows your current location and
boat data in real time.

• Boat Info shows boat and dealer information.

• Settings shows displayed unit settings and NMEA2000/EVC gateway settings.

Home view (Offboard)

Home view

The Home view dashboard displays the following


parameters:

• Photo shows your uploaded photo. To change


photo see Boat Info.

• My Latest Journey shows your latest journey. To


view more detailed information or all your journeys
tap on All Journeys above the map. For more
details see My Journey.

• My Vessel shows the fuel level in percent and


engine hours since the latest trip.

Tap on the dashboard below to navigate between the


different views:

The offboard Map view shows the location of your boat.

Tap on this symbol to share your location.

My Journeys

My Journeys view shows your saved trips and data.


To edit your journeys tap on and then:

to delete journeys. Select the journeys you


like to delete and then Done or Delete all to
remove all journeys.

to merge journeys. Mark the journeys you


like to merge and then Done.

Press on the journey you want to display and then:

to share your journey via mail, facebook and


other.

to edit journey name and then Save.


Vessel Status

The offboard Vessel status view shows your histori-


cal alerts. The fault message describes the fault and
suggests suitable actions.

Tap on this symbol and then OK to delete


all your historical alerts.

Tap on this symbol to share all diagnostic


data from the engine with your dealer.

To send alerts separately, tap on the fault code you


want to send and then send faultcode with email.
Captain view (Onboard)

Captain view
The Captain view dashboard displays the following
parameters (this view is only avaiblable in tablet):

• My view shows fuel level in percentage and en-


gine speed.

• Map shows your current position and trail.

• Trip Computer shows current trip data.

• Vessel Status shows connection status and active


alerts.

Heading compass which you can select to show/hide.


Tap on the menu symbol , then under Settings tap
Heading compass to change.

Tap on the dashboard below to navigate between the


different views:

Gauge and operations information is shown in the My


view window.

Information for up to two engines can be displayed.


Color coding (red and green) is used to separate the
information for the different engines.

Tap on the gauges to customize and select which


instruments to display, the following can be displayed:

• Coolant pressure
• Depth shows the depth under the boat.
• Engine speed
• Fuel level.
• Oil pressure
• Power trim
• Ruddel angle
• Speed
• Voltage
Map

The onboard Map view shows the location of your


boat. You can choose to Hide trail or Show trail to see
your latest traveled path on the map.

If your device is offboard, this will show a standard grid


map.

Trip Computer

Tap on the parameters to customize and select which


parameters to display, the following can be displayed:

• Average fuel economy


• Distance to empty is based on the current fuel
consumption and shows trip distance with remain-
ing fuel.
• Fuel economy shows the trip computer.
• Time to empty is based on current fuel
consumption and shows the remaining
operating time.
• Trip distance shows the distance travelled since
the latest trip computer reset.
• Fuel used
• Fuel rate
• Average fuel rate shows the average fuel
consumption per hour since last trip computer
reset.
Vessel Status

The Vessel status onboard shows your connection


status and active alerts. The fault message describes
the fault and suggests suitable actions.

Tap on this symbol to share all diagnostic


data from the engine with your dealer.

To send alerts separately, tap on the fault


code you want to send and then send fault
code with email.
Boat info

Boat info

Boat information can be viewed and changed in the


Boat details (photo, boat name, installation type) and
Dealer (dealer e-mail). Tap on the menu symbol
and then on the parameters under Boat info to make
changes.

• Boat details
Tap on Boat details and then the info/photo to
make changes.
• Dealer
Change dealer information by tapping on Deal-
er under Boat info, write new e-mail adress or
press Find dealer to go to the Volvo Penta Dealer
Locator and follow the instructions. When you are
done, tap Save.

To add a New Vessel, tap on the menu symbol ,


then on the boat photo and the plus sign to add.
Settings

Settings

Display settings and system function settings are dealt


with in the Settings. Tap the menu symbol and
then on the parameters under Settings to change to
the desired setting.

• Overall unit
Set the overall unit settings for the system (Metric
or Imperial).
• Distance unit
Set the distance unit settings for the system
(Metric, Imperial or Nautical).
• Speed unit
Set the speed unit settings for the system (km/h,
mph or knots).
• Heading compass
Show or hide the heading compass in the cap-
tains view.
• NMEA2000 Gateway
Enable or disable the NMEA2000 Gateway
transmitting of data. Set to Disable if you have an
EVC installation with Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit
(7600/8600 series). Default is Enabled.
• EVC Gateway
Enable or disable the EVC gateway. If the instal-
lation type is set to NonEVC it will be Unavailable.
To change installation type see Boat info - Boat
details. Default is Enabled.
