The use of the definition “small-group movement” dates back to 1920s or 1930s used
by the Episcopal Church in New York City. The few following decades was seen a low
development of such groups in churches but on contrary to it, organization of small group
was prevalent outside the church such as those small group to reach and help with addicts in
The small group will include in it at the beginning not more than 12 to 15 and not less
than 5. When the small group was in its beginning phase the development of this group with
its main purpose was to help build a commitment of people to Christ and in the church one to
another. To surrender by giving of one’s life to heed the calling, to support, encourage,
fellowship to glorify God. It is also a means to reach the unreached and get acquainted with
people where a missionary or an evangelist serves. Small group often take three major
actions: work, counsel and social. In the book of Acts 2:46-47 the church people meet
together daily, break bread in their homes, ate together with genuine hearts and worship God.
Heb 10:24 counsel one should not to keep away the practice of joining together in fellowship.
(Rom 15:14; 1 Cor 14:3; 1 Thess 5:11; 1 John 3:11) The missionary takes every
responsibility to care for the people joining the small group ministry personally when it
comes to their social status, their physical being and influence and their spirituality. The
missionary or evangelist managing the small group ministry would spend time in devising the
most effective plan to bring out a high success result of the ministry. He takes a few people
into the group in the beginning and the few people in return bring more people, In the group
many activities are done such as singing, reading and studying the scripture together, Praying
together. In this group they share each other burdens and even share the happy and joyful
moments together. Not only the missionary or evangelists take the programmes yet all are
given opportunities to take part as well. The small group after spending much time with each
other then builds its mission and purpose. 1) Group slowly into medium size number of
people along with time. 2) The group is well balance in every aspect (programmes within the
group, fellowship, outreach, etc. 3) through the group the people are trained that they in turn
have the potential to train others and empower others to serve. 4) The church receives its
strong support from these small groups in its journey and its outreach evangelism. 5) These
small group will be an open door for people to enter not to divide the community but to build
them and help them come to oneness though with differences. 6) The small group will not
just stick together often but will at times meet challenges individually and help other people
