INTRODUCTION:

A theme park is an elaborate attraction that goes to great efforts to create the illusion of another place,
world, or culture using intelligent planning, architecture, landscaping, music, food, characters, rides,
attractions, and exhibit. Theme parks are star players in the tourism industry, they are the main
motivators for tourism trips to many destinations in the world and they play an important role in
generating tourism demand.

Competition in the theme park market is growing also in terms of an increasing number of parks, but
also relative to other uses of leisure. But in different areas, the theme park market seems to be reaching
its saturation point and the parks have to cater for visitors who are getting more and more experienced
and demanding.

THE THEME PARK CONCEPT

In general, theme parks can be defined as a subset of visitor attractions. Visitor attractions are described
as permanent resources which are designed, controlled and managed for the enjoyment, amusement,

1
entertainment, and education of the visiting public, which consists of a mixture of entertainment, rides,
games, food and tests of skill like the ones provided at carnivals, circuses and fairs.

Theme parks designed in an attempt to create a world or an atmosphere of another place and time, and
usually emphasized on one dominant theme around which architecture, landscape, rides, shows, food
services, costumed personnel, retailing are orchestrated.

DESIGN BRIEF:

A World Class Theme Park Company is planning to build a theme park in the Philippines that can
compete not only in Asia but to the rest of the world.

The site is approximately 149,900 sq.m. and is located inside Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga, 8kms away
from Clark International Airport. The site is bounded by 2 roads located on the northern and southern
part of the site.

The client is looking for a design that is well planned in terms of the appropriate distribution of the rides,
games, food and entertainment as well as a free flowing pedestrian traffic. He is targeting about 2million
park visitors annually. Suitable locations for the Park offices should also be observed, including
administration offices, maintenance and the utility systems. And the top priority of the client is safety,
convenience and circulation, not just for able bodied individuals but to persons with disability as well.
The owner has already 12 themes in mind:
