1. SCOPE

This specification covers the general requirements of design, manufacture, inspection, testing
and delivery of low voltage (600 volt and below) and middle voltage (from 1,000 to 6,600
volt) CA MAU GAS PROCESSING PLANT PROJECT at CA MAU, VIETNAM and
attendant facilities.
The VENDOR shall comply with the requirements of this Specification and documents
referenced herein. The VENDOR shall submit full technical details of equipment that meets
the requirements detailed herein. Where the VENDOR can provide standard equipment with
proven operability, safety and longevity then this standard equipment shall be offered.

2. REGULATIONS, CODES AND STANDARDS


Codes and Standards to achieve operational safety, sound engineering practices must be
followed. All guidelines described within this specification complement applicable sections
of the under-mentioned codes and standards and their current amendments.
Codes, Standards and regulations issued by the following bodies shall apply as appropriate.

3. CONDITIONS

3.1. Enviromental Conditions

Motors shall be designed for use under the following ambient conditions.

 Ambient Temperature: 18 ℃ min. to 38.2 ℃ max.


 Environment: Coastal area with salinity
Max. Relative Humidity 100%
 Wind: 2 m/s (average), 37 m/s (max.)
< 1000 m above mean sea level.

3.2. Hazardous Area

All electrical equipment installed within a hazardous area shall comply with the
classification of the area in accordance with IEC 60079-10

Motors installed in hazardous area shall be as follows;

Zone 1: LV electric motors shall have type of protection ‘d’ or ‘e’ (Eex ‘d’ or EEx’e’)
and MV motor shall have type of protection ‘p’ (EEx’p’) or ‘de’ (EEx’de’).

Zone 2: All electric motors and inherently non-sparking equipment shall have type of
protection ‘d’ or ‘e’ (Eex ‘d’ or EEx’e’) for LV motors while EEx’de’ or EEx’p’ for
MV motors.

Motors shall be certified in accordance with the applicable Directives/Standards and


local regulations.

In any case, motor temperature class shall not exceed T3.

4. GENERAL DESIGN REQUIREMENT

4.1. Design in general

The motors shall be totally enclosed forced cooled type (TEFC). However, air to air
cooled type (TEAAC) can be applied depending on motor design. The motors shall be
of high efficiency type designed appropriate to the requirements for driven equipment
such as power requirement, run-out conditions, etc., taking into account Location and
Environmental Conditions

4.2. Starting Method & Requirement

Motors shall preferably be suitable for direct-on-line starting. Other starting methods
shall only be applied, when the electric network conditions require or when the driven
equipment does not permit direct-on-line starting. Motors larger than 900 kW shall
have special starting method to reduce the starting current to a reasonable level and
shall not be more than 3.5 times of rated current and 100% starting torque (e.g.
reduced voltage starting, unit transformer starting, etc.). The motor characteristics
must be checked to ensure that there is sufficient torque to accelerate the load, shall be
10% greater.

Motors shall be designed to allow the number of consecutive starts (coasting to rest
between starts) in accordance with IEC-60034-12 as specified below;

 Number of consecutive start-ups with initial temperature of the motor at


ambient level (cold) : 2 times
 Number of consecutive start-ups after motor running at rated condition (hot) : 1
times

All motors shall be suitable for starting under specified load conditions with 80% of
the rated voltage at the motor terminals. For DOL application the maximum allowable
run up time for the motor in any motor and load combination shall not exceed 10
seconds with a voltage at the motor terminals equal to 80% of the lower system
voltage.

4.3. Duty and Rating

The motors shall be designed for continuous running (S1 according to IEC 60034) and
for maximum continuous rating. Exceptions are only permissible when other duty
types are practical for special drives.

The motor shall have 1.0 service factor and will carry its rated power without
exceeding its rated temperature rise.

4.4. Direction of Rotation

In general, motors shall be suitable for both directions of rotation.

In special cases, e.g. in view of noise abatement methods or for large MV motors;
motors built for uni-directional design will be accepted.

If, in view of noise abatement methods, motors are built in such a way that they can
only operate in one direction of rotation, this direction of rotation shall be clearly
shown on the motor and be easily visible. In addition, it must be possible to change the
direction of rotation by replacing the fan.

4.5. Ligfting Hooks

The motor shall be provided with suitable lifting lugs. Motors greater than 10kg shall
have eyebolts, lugs or extension piece clearly identifiable for hoist.

5. ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS

5.1. Power Supply Conditions

Motors shall be designed to operate satisfactorily at the rated load with the following
variation power supply. Performance in these cases need not necessarily be in

accordance with those established for operation at the rated voltage and the rated
frequency.
 For motors rated up to 199kW(Low Voltage Motor hereinafter LV Motor) :
415V, 3P, 50Hz
 For motors rated 200kW and above(Middle Voltage Motor hereinafter MV
motor) : 6,600V, 3P, 50Hz
 Voltage variation : ±5% of the rated voltage
 Frequency variation : ±2% of the rated frequency
 Percentage of the two variations is 10% or less, in case that frequency variation
does not exceed ± 5%.

5.2. Protective Systems

5.2.1. Resistance Temperature Detctors

MV motor shall have six (2 per phase) PTC thermistor for stator winding and shall
have two (2) RTD for each sleeve bearing. The leads for temperature detector shall be
brought out to a terminal block in a junction box separate from the main power leads
terminal box. If there is special requirement of Winding temperature detector (WTD)
and bearing temperature detector (BTD) then WTD & BTD will be applied regardless
of motor rated power.

5.2.2. Motor Differential Protection


MV motor shall have three, window type current transformers, supplied and mounted
in the motor junction box by the motor VENDOR, for differential protection of the
motor windings only. Motor leads T1 and T4 shall pass through one C.T., leads T2 and
T5 through the second C.T. and T3 and T6 through the third CT T4, T5 and T6 are
then connected together for the "Wye" point. Each CT secondary terminal shall be
brought to terminal strips located in the main power leads junction box.

The CT shall have one(1) ampere secondary and a primary rating equal to
approximately 1.5 times the motor rated full load amperes. The secondary leads shall
be terminated on terminal strips in the main power leads junction box.

5.2.3. Lightning, Surge Protection and Earthing

MV motor shall be equipped with lightning arrestors and surge capacitors mounted in
the main power leads junction box.

Location and size of earth boss shall be specified. Two earth terminals shall be
provided for each motor which is larger than 30kW.

5.2.4. Vibration Protection


MV motor shall be equipped with vibration detector. If there is requirement of vibrator
detector then vibration

6. CONSTRUCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

6.1. Insulation

The insulation classes shall be as per IEC Standard.

The winding insulation shall generally conform to insulation class F with thermal
utilization according to insulation class B.

6.2. Rotor, Fans and Coupling

6.2.1. Rotor

The rotor shall be of squirrel cage type, dynamically balanced to provide a low
vibration level and a long service life for the bearings. The accepted values of peak to
peak vibration amplitudes for a motor at rated voltage and speed on a machined
surface bed-plate with the motor leveled and with a half-key or coupling fitted shall
not exceed those given in IEC standard

A very sturdy rotor construction is required.

The Contractor shall ensure that the critical speed of the motor and driven machine
combined will not be dangerously close to the running speed. The critical speed of the
motor shall not be within about 30% of rated speed.

Shaft ends shall be provided with suitably threaded holes for assembly of couplings,
bearings, etc.

6.2.2. Fans
The external fan and, if applicable, the separately mounted internal fan shall be
individually balanced.

External fans shall be keyed to the shaft.

The external fans shall be of non-corroding material or shall be treated with a


corrosion resistant coating.

The flow of cooling air shall be in the direction of the driven equipment.

Motors fitted with unidirectional fans shall be provided with an arrow permanently
indicating the direction of rotation. Indication by means of a painted or adhesive arrow
is not acceptable.

6.2.3. Coupling
The coupling design shall be based on the maximum transient torque that can be
expected at the coupling in case of a two or three-phase short circuit at the motor
terminals, as well as full opposite voltage during re-acceleration.

The coupling components shall be balanced individually. The motor vendor shall
mount the balanced coupling hub as supplied by the driven equipment vendor. When
the coupling hub does not fully cover the shaft key, the motor manufacture should
machine the key in such a way that residual unbalance is eliminated.

The shaft ends shall be provided with a suitable threaded hole or holes to facilitate the
assembly or removal of coupling and bearing races.

Shaft extensions, keys and keyways shall be in accordance with IEC 60072 Part 1 and
Part 2. Vendor shall furnish the proposed shaft-end design in case no design is
specified.

For motors intended to drive directly loads that require a variable torque during each
revolution reciprocating compressors, the shaft-end design and coupling should be
similar to the driven equipment.

6.3. Terminal box

Cast iron junction boxes shall be provided on motors. Material shall be 3.2 mm
minimum thickness. In case of high voltage motors, sheet steel junction box can be
used. All explosion proof type motors shall be provided with explosion proof type
terminal box.

All terminal boxes shall be adequate size for the satisfactory termination of cable(s)
required including all applicable termination components. Terminal boxes shall be
spacious enough to accommodate the cable(s) and crimped sockets required for the
specified cable size. All terminal boxes shall be suitable for XLPE insulated cooper
cables with armoring.

Lead wires for high voltage motors which come out of the stator to the motor terminal
box shall be oil resistant wire, or otherwise completely covered with an oil resistant
jacket or tape.

 Hazardous Area : IP 56 (Explosion proof type : refer to section 3.2)


 Outdoor non-hazardous area : IP 56
 Indoor non-hazardous area : IP 42

Terminal boxes shall be separated for each of service.


 Main connections
 Star point connections (Only for MV motors)
 Anti-condensation heater connections (Only for MV motors)
 Instrumentation and alarm devices

Porcelain terminal bushings and insulators shall not be used.

NPT type cable gland shall be used. Terminal boxes should have thread with plug to
fit cable gland type.

Terminal box Location

Terminal boxes shall be located properly to insert and to connect cables. A preferred
terminal box is one in which cable entrance is adjustable to any of the four directions,
parallel or at right angles to the motor shaft, by removing and re-fixing it in the desired
direction. Terminal box shall be considered detachable type with motor fan.

6.4. Bearing and Lubrication

Bearings shall be of the anti-friction, ball, sleeve or thrust type as required and
approved for the application.

Grease lubricated motors of 0.75 kW and above shall have bearing housings supplied
with threaded fill and drain openings. Openings shall be plugged. Grease type bearing
housings shall be equipped with fittings so that oil grease will be forced out of the
bearing as new grease is added.

Horizontal motors up to 200 kW shall have grease lubricated ball bearings. Sealed,
pre-lubricated ball bearings are acceptable on motors of 0.55 kW and below in non-
critical service.

Motors of 200 KW and above shall have split sleeve bearings. Oil lubrication system
of the sleeve bearing shall have reservoirs of generous capacity effectively covered so
that no dust or other foreign materials can enter the bearings. Oil slingers and catchers
shall be designed to prevent the escape of oil from the bearing and creepage along the
shaft.

Reservoirs shall be provided with drains, tapped fill openings and separate level gauge
glasses.

A permanent indication of proper oil level shall be provided. Sleeve bearing motors
shall have a shaft end float of l2.5 mm minimum.

The design of thrust bearings for vertical motors shall be submitted for purchaser’s
approval. Vertical motors shall have thrust bearings suitable for the thrust load
imposed by the driven equipment. Bearings shall be rated for a five year average life.

Motors shall be equipped with suitable seals to prevent moisture from entering through
the shaft opening.

Forced feed lubrication systems shall be provided on motors only when it is the motor
Seller's recommendation and standard practice. When a forced feed lubrication system
is furnished, complete information and details shall be furnished with the quotation.

Oil pressure lubrication system for bearings shall conform to the following minimum
requirements.

The main lube oil pump shall preferably be driven from the motor shaft. Auxiliary
lube oil pump and electric motor shall be interlocked to assure adequate oil pressure to
the motor bearings for start-up or emergency.

Lube oil systems shall be arranged with dual oil filters, switchover valves and oil
pressure gauges to indicate pressure differential across the filter.

Oil filters shall be replaceable while motor is in service.

A dial-type thermometer shall be provided in each bearing outlet line on motors 500
KW and above.

A pressure indicator shall be installed in the lube oil pump discharge for alarm and
control functions. Contacts shall be separate for each function.

Motor 500 KW and above shall be provided with two temperature detectors on each
sleeve bearing.

The motor lubrication system may be combined with that of the driven equipment
system with Purchaser approval.

Horizontal motors used in vertical service (e.g., air coolers) shall be equipped with a
shaft seal, which will preclude entry of moisture. Adequate means of drainage shall
also be provided. Motors for such service will be identified by Purchaser.

6.5. Balancing and Vibration

Motors shall be dynamically balanced. The use of solder or similar deposits for
balancing is not acceptable. Parent metal removed to achieve dynamic or static balance
shall be removed so as not to effect the structural strength of the rotating element.

Motor vibrations shall not exceed the limits specified in the table II of IEC 60034-14
or NEMA MG 1-12.06. During the measurement, the motor shall run without load,
uncoupled, in free suspension conditions at rated voltage and frequency.

6.6. Anti-condensation Heater

LV/MV motor shall be provided with anti-condensation heaters or space heater. Single
phase 240V AC 50Hz space heaters shall be provided for electric motors rated 15 kW
and above. The space heater shall be automatically switched off when the motor is
running and switched on when the motor is stopped.

The heaters shall permanently remain ‘on’ when the motor is not in service, and as
such shall not cause damage to the windings, or cause the surface temperature of the
motor or temperature of any part of increased safety motor to go beyond limiting
temperature.

The heater leads shall be brought out to a separate terminal box of the same
specification and grade of protection as the main power terminal box excepting that
the cable glands provided shall be suitable for two core 4 sq.mm. copper conductor,
armored cable. A warning label with indelible red inscription shall be provided on the
motor to indicate that isolation of the power line alone is not sufficient and that the
heater supply should be isolated before carrying out any work on the motor.

6.7. Noise Level

The design of the facility shall minimize the noise levels in accordance with IEC
60034-9 (Noise limits)
 Maximum sound power levels for motor in no-load condition shall be 82 dB(A)
measured at 1m.
 Maximum sound power levels for motor in loaded condition shall be 85
dB(A) measured at 1m.

6.8. Name Plates

Nameplates on separate data plates shall be provided and shall be of stainless steel.
Name plates shall be fixed on motor body by closed rivet method.

 For motors with unidirectional fans, a separate data plate with rotational arrow

7. INSPECTION AND TESTS

All motors shall receive routine commercial tests in accordance with IEC publications.
Test records shall be provided.
 Visual inspection including checking of accessories
 Insulation resistance measuring
 Resistance measurements of stator winding at ambient temperature
 No-load point at 50 Hz
 Lock rotor point at 50 Hz
 Temperature rise test at rated current
 Locked rotor current and torque
 Noise measurements at no load
 Efficiency measurement at 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% load
 Over-speed test
 Over-load test

8. PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT

Motors shall be adequately packed for transport and shipment and bearing must be
suitably protected. If bearing protection is not possible, spare bearings shall be
included in the package. Packing shall be suitable for protection against heavy rains
and strong enough to withstand abnormal handling during shipment and transport.

9. GUARANTEE

Motor shall be guaranteed for KW, speed and satisfactory performance in every
Respect at all specified conditions.

10. PAINTING

Motor surfaces, except flanges and other machined surfaces, shall be shop painted.
Corrosion-resistant paint, with surface treatment for rust protection shall be used.
Motor exterior color shall apply for color defined in paint specification.
