HOW TO USE THIS COMPETENCY-BASED LEARNING MATERIAL

Welcome to the module in Computer System Servicing NC II. This module

contains training materials and activities for you to complete.
The unit of competency "Perform Installation and Configuration of
Computer System" contains knowledge, skills and attitudes required for
Computer Systems Servicing NC II.
You are required to go through a series of learning activities in order to
complete each learning outcome of the module. In each learning outcome are
Information Sheets, Self-Checks, Task Sheets or Job Sheets. Follow these
activities on your own. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask your facilitator
for assistance.
The goal of this course is the development of practical skills. To gain these
skills, you must learn basic concepts and terminologies. For the most part, you'll
get this information from the Information Sheets and suggested resources and
references
This module is prepared to help you achieve the required competency, in
"Perform Installation and Configuration of Computer System”.
This will be the source of information for you to acquire knowledge and
skills in this particular competency independently and at your own pace, with
minimum supervision or help from your trainer.
Remember to:
▪ Work through all the information and complete the activities in each section.
▪ Read information sheets and complete the self-check. Suggested references are
included to supplement the materials provided in this module.
▪ Most probably your trainer will also be your supervisor or manager. He/she is

▪ You will be given plenty of opportunity to ask questions and practice on the job.
Make sure you practice your new skills during regular work shifts. This way
you will improve both your speed and memory and also your confidence.
▪ Use the Self-checks, Operation Sheets or Task Sheets at the end of each section
to test your own progress.
▪ When you feel confident that you have had sufficient skill, ask your Trainer to
evaluate you. The results of your assessment will be recorded in your Progress
Chart and Accomplishment Chart.

1. Describe an application software and its purpose;
2. Enumerate common example of an application software; and its function
and special features.
3. Perform the installation process of application software.

Application Software
An application program (app or application for short) is a computer program
designed to perform a group of coordinated functions, tasks, or activities for the
benefit of the user. Examples of an application include a word processor, a
spreadsheet, an accounting application, a web browser, a media player, an
aeronautical flight simulator, a console game or a photo editor. The collective
noun application software refers to all applications collectively. This contrasts with
system software, which is mainly involved with running the computer.

Graphic Software- refers to a program or collection of programs that enable a
person to manipulate images or models visually on a computer. Computer
graphics can be classified into distinct categories: raster graphics and vector
graphics, with further 2D and 3D variants. Many graphics programs focus
exclusively on either vector or raster graphics, but there are a few that
operate on both. It is simple to convert from vector graphics to raster
graphics, but going the other way is harder. Some software attempts to do
this.

Examples of Graphic Software

 Adobe Photoshop
 CorelDraw
 Microsoft Paint and Picasa.

Gaming Software - game engine, also known as a game framework or game

frame, is a software-development environment designed for people to build
video games. Developers use game engines to construct games for consoles,
mobile devices, and personal computers.
Some hobbyists may use software packages that help with game
development, such as Adobe Animate, Unity, Android Studio, pygame,
Adventure Game Studio, Game Maker Studio, Godot, Unreal Engine, Pixel
Game Maker MV, or Construct.

Communication Software- is used to provide remote access to systems and

exchange files and messages in text, audio and/or video formats between
different computers or users. This includes terminal emulators, file
transfer programs, chat and instant messaging programs, as well as similar
functionality integrated.
Here are a list of collaboration and communication platforms and
software that can be used to connect and integrate your most essential
business components.
 Dropbox is one of the most efficient and user-friendly cloud
sharing solutions. Teams can use Dropbox to better manage
shared files, reducing the need for email and improving the
collaboration between employees.  Integrate with your intranet
solution so team members can easily insert their content into a
team workspace with just one click. Content can then be uploaded
into Dropbox and visually displayed. A content search function is
also included.
 Google Drive is another popular web-based sharing platform. With
a Google Drive connector, users can readily access folders and files
to boost productivity and facilitate collaboration with your intranet
solution.
 SharePoint is a web-based collaborative platform or an on-premise
software for your employees. Connect this with your intranet to
