The maps describe the layout of the planned development of a shopping mall, Southside, and compare

it with the current layout.

The two maps show the shopping mall, Southside, in its current form and its proposed expansion.

Atmpt 1: Overall, the proposed overhaul would eventually lead to a bigger car park and department
store, while the Cinemas, Noodle shop, play area, café, Golf course, fitness centre and the park would be
completely eliminated.

Atmpt 2: Overall, it is evident from the layout that post-development both the car park and the
shopping area would get bigger in size. Further, more focus would be towards fashion and other retail
outlets rather than recreational activities.

Overall, it is clear that the plan is to extend the centre and its car park into nearby green space to allow
for more stores and a greater focus on fashion at the expense of eateries and space for activities.

At present, the Southside mall comprises of a Golf course in the north-east and a park situated adjacent
to it. The shopping arena also consists of a supermarket, a café, a department store, cinemas, a noodle
shop, a play area and toilet facilities. To the south, a car park is located just opposite to the entrance of
the shopping area, while a fitness centre is built in between the park and the car park.

According to the proposal, the Supermarket, the entrance and the toilet facilities will remain as it is,
while the department store, with an individual entrance, will be shifted eastwards and extended in size
overtaking the site of golf course. However, five new stores, including two shoe stores, a beauty salon, a
cosmetic store and a gift shop will replace the existing establishments comprising of cinemas, noodle
shop and play area. Further, the Info Centre will supersede the Café; meanwhile, the car park will be
expanded in easterly direction, overtaking the current fitness centre and occupying a small area of the
park as well, which will be totally eliminated in the latest scheme. Additionally, three new fashion
outlets will be erected just beside the toilets.
