To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Dimitri Heaggans and I am the Ministry Outreach Manager for the St. Clair County
Salvation Army Corps. Christmas is quickly approaching, and The Salvation Army is still here to
help those in need in the community. Due to job loss, Covid-19, and increased hardship this
year- we are projecting the need to assist even more families this Christmas season. The
Salvation Army has many ways that volunteers can leave a lasting impact and change in our
communities. We have opportunities to help serve hungry families and individuals during our
Food Pantry. Volunteering as a bell ringer is more than an icon of the Christmas season; they’re
the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises the funds that sustain the help The
Salvation Army provides all year long. We also have Virtual Ringing opportunities which asks
friends and family to donate to an online fundraiser to support my local Salvation Army’s
annual Red Kettle Campaign initiative. If volunteering for Christmas Sign-ups with the
Salvation Army, you will help to provide Christmas gifts and resources to low income families,
with a focus on households with children and the elderly. Larger organizations such as
churches or stores can also volunteer by becoming an Angel Tree location. How it works is a
Salvation Army Angel Tree will be set up somewhere in the local community during the 2020
holiday season. Then a generous member of the community selects the name and gifts off of
the Angel Tree. They buy the item for the child, drop it off at the Salvation Army, and they
match the gift with the child. Everything is given for free to the children. Our Salvation Army
Corps here in St. Clair County also has many daily opportunities that volunteers can assist with.

We’re so excited you've given an interest in volunteering on behalf of The Salvation Army.
If it weren’t for our wonderful volunteers, we could not possibly accomplish our projected
goals in assisting and serving our community. If you have any questions or would like to
volunteer, please see the information below for direction and support.
