1. Introduction

IIM Kashipur has been offering several analytics electives in its MBA Program over the past five years
and its recently launched MBA (Analytics) program. The programs have several analytics courses like
Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, Advanced Data Analysis, Advanced Econometrics, Big Data,
Computer Vision, Data Visualization, Data Science and Machine Learning, Financial Analytics, Image
Analytics, HR Analytics and Social Media Analytics, among others.

Faculty at IIM Kashipur have been increasing their repertoire in analytics through these analytics
electives, which culminated in the launch of MBA (Analytics) program in 2020. The established its
leadership in the analytics domain through its MBA (Analytics) program and joined IIM Bangalore as
the only other IIM with a full-time program in Analytics. The program was immediately welcomed by
the prospective students. The first batch of MBA (Analytics) attracted more than 1000 applications
and the second batch attracted more than 2000 applications. On the placement front, analytics along
with IT has been contributing to around 30% of offers in finals as well as summer placements over
the past few years. IIM Kashipur Students have participated and won several case-study competitions
in analytics and the numbers are increasing every year.

On the Executive Education front, IIM Kashipur has successfully conceived and executed Analytics
courses such as Big Data and Business Analytics, Financial Data Analytics and Digital Marketing and
Analytics. From an academic perspective, several management institutions such as IIM Calcutta, IIM
Bangalore, and ISB have been championing Analytics education in response to the industry needs. It
is time that IIM Kashipur leverages its competency developed over the years to cater to the needs of
aspiring participants in the executive education sphere.

The purpose of this concept note is to propose a two-year online program titled “Executive Master
of Business Administration (Analytics) (EMBAA)”

2. Alignment with Institute Vision and Mission

Institute Mission: The institute strives to create and disseminate knowledge through applied and
interdisciplinary research and practices in the emerging areas of management. The institute develops
socially conscious, competent and ethical business leaders and researchers capable of critical
thinking, innovation and entrepreneurship while being inclusive and focusing on both regional
development and internationalisation.

Institute Vision: To be an institute of eminence that fosters management research and education
and develops leaders for creating positive societal impact in a changing world.

In line with the Institute’s mission, the proposed EMBAA program will endeavour to create and
disseminate knowledge in the emerging and interdisciplinary areas of analytics, technology and
management. The program will prepare participants to become business leaders who harness the

power of analytics to achieve the stated mission and vision of IIM Kashipur in the rapidly changing
world of business.

4. Program Structure

The program shall have 900 contact hours spread across six terms over 24 months. In order to
complete the program, the students should acquire 35 credits across the six terms. Each credit shall
be of 25 hours or equivalent thereof. Each term comprises of a set of courses, which introduce and
equip the student with both analytics as well as management concepts. The first two terms comprise
of core courses, while the third and the fourth terms comprise of both core as well as elective courses.
The detailed structure of the course is presented in Table 1 and Table 2.

4.1. Salient Features


● The program shall have the same overall structure as a regular MBAA program.
● The first-year coursework of EMBAA shall be several courses in common with the Regular
MBAA and MBA program in Terms I, II and III. This shall provide a good foundation for
business analytics.

● First year would consist of 20 credits where core management and analytics course are
almost evenly distributed. Out of these 20 credits 9 credits are from management core
courses and 11 credits are from analytics core courses.

● In the second year, students shall have to take a minimum of 15 credits (at least 5 credits in
each in term).
● Out of minimum required 15 credits in second year, a minimum of 9 credits (at least 4 in Term
IV, 3 in V, and 2 in term VI) shall be from Analytics cores and electives.
● Students may take up to a maximum of 18 credits (at most 6 credits in each term) in second
year.
● Overall, the EMBAA program shall have a minimum of 35 credits (20 Credits in Year I and 15
Credits in Year II).
● There will be two industry workshops (non-credit) of 12.5 hours each in the Term VI.
● There will be a capstone project spread over term V and term VI. Participants are expected
to work on real world problems (from their own organization or any organization of their
own choice) under the guidance of a faculty.

5. Course Pedagogy and Evaluation

● Optional campus-based 14-day summer workshops (after Term I and Term IV). Students will
be asked to complete a mini project. This mini project will be evaluated on a
satisfactory/unsatisfactory scale.

7. Admission Policy

The purpose of this section is to define the admission policy at IIM Kashipur for its Executive
Master of Business Administration (Analytics) programme.

IIM Kashipur EMBAA Admission Test to be conducted with the help of the partner organization.

IIM Kashipur EMBAA Admission Test will comprise of following sections


(i) Verbal ability
(ii) Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
(iii) Quantitative Ability

7.1 Eligibility Criteria


In order to be eligible to apply for Executive MBA (Analytics) programme, a candidate must
possess:

A. Bachelor’s Degree: A full-time Bachelor's degree in any discipline or an equivalent


academic pursuit (i.e., 10+2+3), with a minimum of 45% marks or equivalent CGPA (42%
for NC-OBC, EWS 40% marks for SC/ST/DAP)

B. Work Experience:
● Minimum 3 years of full-time work experience, where number of months of work
experience is considered as on date of announcement of the online application
process for admission.
● Work Experience will be considered which is only paid and full-time work experience,
acquired after completing the Bachelor’s Degree. (Apprenticeship, Articleship,
Internship, etc., which form an integral part of a course study, will not be treated as
work experience).
● Part-time/Project/Internship/Articleship/Pre-graduation work experience should
not be entered and will not be counted as work experience.

7.2 Reservation Criteria
IIM Kashipur will follow the Government of India norms on reservations for Scheduled Caste (SC),
Scheduled Tribes (ST), Non-Creamy Other Backward Class (NC-OBC), Differently-Abled Person
(DAP), and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates.

7.3 Admission Process


The admission process shall comprise the following stages.
Stage 1: Candidates will have to submit an online application with all the required documents in
the form of attachments as required.
Stage 2: Eligible applicants will have to appear for EMBAA Admission Test and Personal Interview.
Stage 3: Offers will be sent after the announcement of the final merit list. Announcement of the
final merit list under any category shall be strictly in order of merit based on the total score. This
calculation is given in Table 6.

7.4 Important Information


The following documents need to be kept ready as they may be requested at any time during the
admission process for further verification.
● Caste Certificate (NC-OBC/ SC/ST certificate), if applicable
● NC-OBC Certificate, if applicable, valid till the time of admission
● DAP Certificate, if applicable
● EWS certificate as per GoI norms valid till the time of admission
● SSC/10th Std/Equivalent Marksheet
● HSC/ 12th Std/ Equivalent Marksheet
● Graduation Degree Marksheet
● Proof of Work Experience, i.e. relevant Certificate(s) along with first & last salary slips.
Specific dates of joining and leaving the organization(s) need to be mentioned. Self-employed
professionals may submit a personal declaration stating the exact dates of their employment
along with necessary documents. Indicate only paid and full-time work experience, acquired
after completing the Bachelor’s Degree. (apprenticeship, articleship, internship, etc., which
form an integral part of a course study, should not be treated as work experience).

8. Program Marketing and Delivery

IIM Kashipur does not have a digital marketing team which could market long-term and short-term
programs. The digital marketing team would ideally be staffed by 3 digital marketing staff – one each
to oversee technology, marketing, and counselling aspects of the online program. Significant time and
effort are required from dedicated manpower to launch a new program and run it successfully.
However, developing the competencies by way of professional staff recruitment would require 6-9
months of effort.

Therefore, empanelled partners for executing online programs may be leveraged for this
purpose until in-house competency is developed.

10. Additional Faculty and Staff Requirements

Some areas would require recruitment of faculty to meet the teaching requirements of the program.

IT & Systems: A substantial number of first year core courses in MBA and MBAA and electives are
catered to by the IT & Systems Area. The area would require a minimum of eight faculty members to
meet its commitments in MBA, MBA (Analytics), PhD, EMBA and EMBAA.

OM & DS: At least one faculty required for Decision Sciences and advanced analytics courses.

Economics: Given 2 extra core courses, and potentially more elective courses, one extra faculty is
required in the field of Industrial Organization (will be able to handle Microeconomics, Econometrics,
and Game Theory).

A separate programme office is required to run the programme operations smoothly.

11. Placement

The participants of the program have three years of full-time work experience and are expected to
be employed during the duration of the program. Hence, the institute shall not be offering
placement facilities for the participants of the program.
