In follow up to my previous reporting and continuing my study further on corrosion impact on

ITE in Data Centers Located in Coastal Regions. In the follow-up to the previous report. I will be
presenting a detail of the other two tests.

In Test 3 we will be trying to deposit actual sea salts on the coupons. We need to actually source
the real seawater to conduct this experiment. We are looking at potential locations to get the
seawater. Also we are looking at logistics to get the water to the Syracuse University campus lab
for research. We will be needing to do this experiment multiple times to get the evaporated sea
salt to be deposited on the coupons. The deposition on the coupon is measured in terms of
ug/cm2. The weight change attempted to be around 5,10,15,20 ug/cm2. The exact equipment
to be weight to an accuracy of 1ug is needed. This will help in weighing the coupons before and
after and help in determining the exact weight change that occurred on the coupon. The
coupons will be placed in a test setup developed to replicate the test conditions present in
Singapore. We will try to do cycling of Temperature and Relative Humidity based on Singapore
weather conditions initially and later if possible try to look at various other areas. This setup will
be located at the Syracuse University Lab. After cycling the temperature and Relative Humidity
the coupons are weighed on an accurate scale to measure the weight change. later the Coupons
will be analyzed under a Scanning Electron Microscope and also a possibility of Coulometric
Reduction to further analyze the coupons in detail.

In Test 4 we will be depositing sea salts on coupons using mist spray of seawater at Syracuse
University which needs to be designed. A custom sea salt apparatus to be placed in the lab of
Syracuse university will be designed. In the setup, there is a mixing chamber that will be having
an extension hose in which the coupons are placed. This is the initial idea and later developed
into a more modified one after the starting of the experiment. In the mixing chamber, we will be
having a fan, mist generator, and heater. The seawater will be placed in the mixing chamber.
The fan will need to run continuously to mimic the real environment. The heater will be used to
maintain the hot temperatures found in various areas. We are looking to cycle the heater to
maintain a temperature between 30C and 36C. There will a special controller needed to
maintain this cycle. I will be working on what kind of controller would work for this. The mist
generator may be ready-made or bought from the local store. The mist generator will be
working for the 4 hours of the 24-hour cycle to maintain the Relative Humidity between 80%
and 90% on the coupon. This will also need a customized controller to maintain this. The Surface
area of the container of sea salt water should be adjusted to maintain a Relative humidity
between 40% and 60% even when the mist generator is turned off for 20 hours. This setup will
be needed to connect to a 1 in of a Tygon house. Since the pipe length will be determining the
Relative Humidity. We will need to adjust the length as per that. The length of the hose needs to
be such that 80 to 90 Relative Humidity is found at the coupons. The longer length of the
coupons will cause the Relative Humidity to decrease since some of the mist will try to condense
on the wall of the hose. There will be a condensate drain to collect the fluid which has stuck to
the surface. There will also a need to cycle the water back to the seawater in the mixing
chamber. There will be also Temperature and Relative Humidity Probes placed near the coupons
to monitor the values. I am also looking at what kind of sensor is available in the market which
will be able to measure the composition of sea salt particles present in the air located near the
coupons. The coupons will be placed at the end of the hose. A special kind of mounting fixture
to pass the mixture air through the coupons. Maybe 3d printing might help in the case model
making.

All of the things in this report have been presented to Professor Zhang, In the next report, I will
be reporting on what his comments are and how we are going to move forward. I will also be
going into detail about the research on the papers related to the tests and also the equipment
available for the research.
