FPSC NAB AD General Tips and Preparation Material

This post concerns NAB AD screening test, as it was committed a while back to provide some guidelines
on how to best tackle the test.

At the outset, it should be kept in mind that there will be 6 portions of the screening test. Those will be
English, Mathematics, Current Affairs (Last 2 years), and NAB Ordinance 1999 – each consisting of 20
questions – and Pakistan Affairs and Islamic Studies – each comprising of 10 questions. This is in
accordance with FPSC’s syllabus for the post of NAB AD.

In light of given syllabus and some experience, it is recommended that the following should be covered
to best deal with each portion:

ENGLISH

Vocabulary, preferably GRE 1500 words list. It is highly likely that there will be 10 questions concerning
vocabulary. But there is also a probability that vocabulary would not make part of the test. (The list is
available for download in the given link). Proper understanding of Parts of Speech and their kinds. It is a
must that one has the ability to distinguish between words as parts of speech in any given sentence.
Moreover, Phrases and Clauses and their kinds. and kinds of sentences. Other than that, Active/Passive
Structures and Direct/Indirect Sentences. These should be enough to deal with the English Portion.

MATHEMATICS

As is apparent from the syllabus one should have the basic ability to deal with Algebra, Proportions,
Ratios, Percentages and Arithmetic Means/Averages. This portion is an area in which one can score
100%, given one has the needed ability.

CURRENT AFFAIRS

Recommendation would be to study past 2-year issues of JWT Magazines, and CSS Times’s daily dosage
of current affairs Or Monthly Capsules at ExamDaily.in Or one can also study past 2-year editorials of
Dawn Newspaper. No collection of material regarding the preparation of Current Affairs portion would
be sufficient because more often than not, there are always some surprising questions in the portion.
This portion is one of those areas in which one’s score is likely to be lowest compared to all other
portions.

NAB ORDINANCE 1999

Cramming this ordinance as much as one can could prove to be helpful to the point of securing 100%
marks. It is suggested that one not miss any minute detail in the ordinance such as references and
explanations for omissions and omissions themselves. Also, given the FPSC’s unnecessary habit of asking
some far-fetched questions, it is advised that NAB TCS 2002, NAB MAQ 2015 and NAB Code of Conduct
be studied too to avoid any surprises.

PAKISTAN AFFAIRS/ISLAMIC STUDIES

As regards Pakistan Affairs and Islamic Studies, these should be prepared from the usual sources such as
the booklet of Pakistan Affairs and Islamic Studies. However, if one wishes to go an extra mile, it is
advised that CSS MCQs in past papers of Pakistan Affairs/Current Affairs/Islamic Studies/Indo-Pak
History/Islamic History and Culture/Study on Comparative Religions be studied.

Any queries are welcome regarding the mentioned test. Following are some of the useful links to study
