WATER AND WASTE A330-200/300
GENERAL FEAM TECHNICAL TRAINING LLC
38-00
38-00 GENERAL
DESCRIPTION
The water and waste system consists of the following subsystems :
S potable water system, including
- water storage
- distribution
- quantity indicating
- water draining
S air supply system for water tank pressurizing
S waste disposal system, divided in the
- toilet system
- wastewater drain system
S insulation and heating system.
The water/waste system is protected against icing conditions by the water and
waste ice protection system (Ref. 30-70-00)
It also has interfaces with:
S the forward attendant panel through CIDS (Ref. 23-73-00)
S the buffet and galley (Ref. 25-30-00)
S the lavatories (Ref. 25-40-00)
S the pneumatic system (Ref. 36-00-00)

Waterlines and the aft water system tank are heated to prevent freezing.
INDICATION
Two of three tanks are equipped with a quantity level transmitter.
The water quantity signal transits through the vacuum system controller and is
displayed on the forward attendant panel and on the potable water service
panel.
During water tank filling, the vacuum system controller sends the water quantity
signal to the preselection control units.

The flush valve is operated by an electrical motor. MONITORING
For maintenance purposes, the valve can be manually closed. The Vacuum System Controller monitors toilet system operation.
DISPOSAL The VSC inhibits the vacuum generator operation when the altitude is above
16.000 ft.
During toilet flushing, the waste from the toilet bowl is transported under the
effect of differential pressure to the waste tank. It controls the air shut-off valve during level balancing and inhibits toilet use
during ground servicing.
A vacuum generator creates the necessary differential pressure in the waste
holding tank to move the waste from the toilet bowl. The vacuum system controller collects fault messages and sends them to the
PIM and to the CMS.
The vacuum generator operates on ground and when the aircraft altitude is be-
low 16,000 feet. INDICATION

COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
The fill and the drain nipples at the potable water service panel and the flush
nipples at the toilet service panel are electrically heated. Each nipple has:
S a foil heating element which is part of the nipple
S an overtemperature switch
S a temperature sensor
Each foil heating element is installed with double-sided bonding tape on the
nipple and is covered with a shrinkable sleeve.
The overtemperature switch prevents damage of each foil heating element.
The cutoff temperature is 110 +5 -5 deg.C (230.00 +9.00 -9.00 deg.F).
The temperature sensors, connected to the WIPCU, permanently measure the
nipple temperature. If icing conditions occur, the WIPCU turns on the foil heat-
ing elements.

HEATERS
The heaters of the potable water lines are installed with bonding tape on the
water lines. Around the drain and the fill and drain valves they are mounted on
a heater bridge. Each heater has:
S a self-limiting heating element
S two power supply connections
S an inner insulation
S a copper shield (with ground bonding connection)
S an outer protection sheath
SENSORS
The sensors are mounted on a clamp. The clamps are installed on the water
lines in areas of possible icing conditions. Each sensor has:
S a ceramic housing
S a sensing chip (which contains a thermistor)
S two connection pins
The value of the thermistor depends on the potable water lines temperature.

data of inoperative galleys and lavatorys are displayed (in flight and on ground).
These data are limited to the cabin attendant requirements. The cabin atten-
dant can do the failure related action. For further information (line maintenance)
you can select the LAST LEG REPORT of the CIDS menu on the CMC/MCDU
in the cockpit (on ground only).

heating circuit current exeeds four Amperes. A failure of the sensor is identi-
fied when the sensor temperature value is not between -80 deg.C (-112.00
deg.F) and +90 deg.C (+194.00 deg.F).
If there is a heating circuit failure, the heating control PCB automatically turns
off the power supply of the related heating circuit. In case of a sensor failure,
the heating control PCB turns the related heating circuit into a ’SENSOR FAIL-
URE MODE’; then, to prevent overheating damage, only 70 % of heating
power is supplied to that heating circuit (20 % heating power to a drainmast
heating circuit).
Only the bold written legends are important for the water ice-protection
system.
POWER-UP TEST
When you push the < POWER-UP TEST line select key the CIDS does a
power-up test of several components of the CIDS. This signal is also the start
signal of the internal BITE of the WIPCUs. During the test a message TEST IN
PROGRESS XX S comes on. The message TEST OK comes on if no faults
were found. If there is a fault these data about the fault come on:
S fault message in clear language
S ATA code
S fault class
