ABSTRACT

Fire alarm systems in commercial, industrial and large residential

buildings can be fairly complex. Most of the fire alarm systems are
microcontroller controlled. The microcontroller will control the
system for a particular building or part of a building. Unlike
sprinkler systems, which act to suppress a fire, a fire alarm system
serves to detect the fire and evacuate the premises. Devices such
as smoke and heat detectors sense the fire and in turn trigger
audio-visual devices. These audio visual devices such as horns,
speakers and strobes, act to notify the occupants of a building of
an emergency situation. Manual pull station also activates the
audio-visuals, but rely on a person to operate them.

In this project, we will try to design a fire alarm system which

was much like the large system. The system is capable of four
different zones. Each zone reports a zone alarm, or a zone trouble
back to the microcontroller. The sensors shall be located in all the
four zones. Each zone is limited in the number of detection devices
(smoke/heat detectors, flow detectors, pull stations) only by the
zone circuitry. Whenever the fire detects, the flash light will be
turn, the horn will be on and LED display will be displayed the zone
number (the zone where the fire will detect). The preventive
measure will also be taken according to the different type of fire
extinguisher. But at this very moment, we have only worked for
the audio and visual indication.

CIRCUIT COMPONENTS

1. Fire Detection circuit AD 590

The AD590 is a calibrated, two terminal temperature

sensor requiring only a dc voltage supply( 4V to 30V).

2. Fire Tone generator

Self contained tone generator and speaker. They provide

alert evacuation tones only. Typically used as a
substitute for internal fire alarm bells
3. Buffer

It is used for amplifying a weak signal.

4. 7 Segment LED Display

THE OPERATION PROCESS
SCOPE

Fire detection and alarm systems are designed to alert persons

and in certain cases the Fire Authorities(FRS) that a fire incident
has been detected. Systems are made up of control and indication
panels, smoke, heat and fire detectors, warning and activation
devices, communication equipment plus means of transmitting
alarm indication to the FRS.
