1. Telecommunications
- ICT stands for Information and Communications Technology. Technology has
made significant advances in telecommunication; it is responsible for the
integration of telecommunications (telephone lines, wireless signals) and
computers. ICT primarily focuses on creating and disseminating communication
resources, as well as storing and managing information, which includes radio,
television, video, DVD, telephone, satellite systems, and many other devices.
2. Health Services
- Information and communications technologies (ICTs) can play a critical role in
improving health care for individuals and communities. By providing new and
more efficient ways of accessing, communicating, and storing information, ICTs
can help bridge the information divides that have emerged in the health sector in
developing and new industrial countries—between health professionals and the
communities they serve and between the producers of health research and the
practitioners who need it. Through the development of databases and other
applications, ICTs also provide the capacity to improve health system efficiencies
and prevent medical errors.
3. Military Applications
- ICT has brought wide ranging changes in the industry in terms of smart weapons,
network-centric battlefield management, real-time combat surveillance, air and
outer space superiority, and software-based force multipliers. When we observe
network centric battlefield management, it is a new approach and with the help
of this military can able to manage their battlefield with the use of ICT advantages.
Using this military commander can monitor his army and decide whether he is
stronger than the enemy’s line. The benefits from network-centric battlefield
management are like observing military force position in battlefield and force of
causalities and ammunition supply level. Superiority in air as well outer space is
the greater advancement from ICT for defense industry and this facilitated
defense industry to produce very high-end military equipment which are used by
air forces across the world. There are lot of electronic devices exist in market with
advancements in ICT components like interceptor jets, UAV’s and satellites for
military to monitor targets continuously.
4. Travel and Hotel Bookings
- The Information Communications Technologies (ICT) plays a major role in tourism,
travel and hospitality industry. The Integration of ICT in the tourism industry is an
essential for success of tourism enterprise. ICT facilitates an individual to access
the tourism products information from anywhere any time. They allow tourists to
create itineraries “on the run” by providing access to websites, apps and social
media sites that offer travel information, booking services and user
recommendations. ICTs will allow greater sharing of recommendations from
travelers with similar characteristics, motives and preferences.
5. Space Exploration
- ICT technology plays a big role in space exploration since it is very useful in
gathering data collected by probes, satellites and missions in space. It is also useful
in storing the large amount of information sent by missions. The use of computers
pave way to better understanding and better handling of all sorts of information.
With the appliance of ICT in these occasions, it helps provide better solutions and
instructions to astronauts. ICT technologies get better everyday as new devices
get developed for space exploration. NASA is currently developing a new aircraft,
named as the X-37B with 600 days of mission time, orbiting around the earth. The
aircraft contains the latest ICT technologies.
6. Weather Analysis
- The primary application of ICT in weather forecasting is data collection. The data
being collected could be coming from extremely remote locations where it would
be dangerous or expensive to travel on a regular basis. They would simply set up
their data collection devices and leave them there to take readings for as long as
possible. The device is solar-powered and uses radio waves to transmit data to a
compatible computer.
