SIU 02 (Site Integration Unit)
The Site Integration Unit (SIU) is the cornerstone of the RBS site in a newly deployed or migrated IP RAN mobile
network.
It provides a common interface between RBSs (GSM, WCDMA, CDMA, LTE, single or multi-standard, legacy or
3rd party equipment), and IP/Ethernet or IP over E1/T1 transport networks.
The SIU can act either as a bridge or a router as needed. Multiple bridging and routing instances can be configured
at the same time.
It facilitates migration from legacy transport (i.e. E1/T1) to next generation high speed transport (Ethernet),
while reducing OPEX through shared transport for 2G, 3G, and 4G radio standards.
It enables optimized Abis over IP for Ericsson GSM base stations
The SIU is an integral part of the multi-standard (GSM/WCDMA/LTE) RBS 6000. Bandwidth is dynamically shared
between all radio technologies, optimizing peak capacity for HSPA and LTE services.
Rapid (~milliseconds) fault detection and failover to an alternative transport link is also available.
Full Ericsson RAN integration through the OSS-RC Management System guarantees smooth operations management.
TCU-
TCU-02 (Transport Connectivity Unit)
The TCU 02 (Transport Connectivity Unit) is a component in the RBS 6000 product family and has been designed
primarily to support Multi Standard RBS with advanced transport functionality.
The TCU 02 has the same form-factor as a digital unit and shall be placed in the radio shelf of the RBS. It is available in
product packages for all RBS 6000 cabinets. In addition to the transport functionality of the digital unit the TCU adds
the following capabilities to the RBS:
8 Gigabit Ethernet ports for aggregation of traffic from multiple digital units
8 E1/T1 ports for connecting GSM RBS cards (DUG)
IP over the TDM (E1/T1) backhaul (as a solution during migration)
Advanced shaping functionality for up to eight queues, with large buffer depth, supporting highest LTE
capacity.
Can act as an IP router and/or as an Ethernet bridge suiting all backhaul deployment scenarios.
Supports NTP, 1588v2 and synchronous Ethernet for RAN synchronization.
Has a local oscillator with 12 months holdover time supporting synchronization over virtually any backhaul
technology, including satellite.
Supports native IP transmission (Abis IP) for Ericsson GSM RBSs making a true All IP multi standard RBS.
Provides Ethernet LAN/WAN connectivity for local site equipment
For ease of installation and use, the TCU 02 is supported by OSS RC for configuration management, fault
management, and performance management functions.
Abis over IP Hardware
BSC:
PGW board(s)
Packet Gateway (PGW) functionality will execute on PGW RP boards (PGWB)
residing in GEM magazines.
PGWB supports 127TRXs and upto 500 Erlangs.
PWB based on GARP-2 supports 255 TRXs and supports upto 1000 Erlangs.
Used for both Abis Optimization and Abis over IP.
BSC LAN Switches
BSC IP connectivity is a requirement for Abis over IP.
BTS:
PSTU (06A), 2409 Pico (07A), SIU (07B)
Used for Abis over IP.
