BRAC bank was found in July 4, 2001 with a vision to build profitable and socially responsible
financial institution focused on Market and Business with Growth potential, thereby assisting
BRAC and stakeholders to build a just, enlightened, healthy democratic and poverty free
Bangladesh. BRAC bank use Finacle software and for their Database Management System
(DBMS) maintenance they use MY SQL. This Project we remark the role of information system
in organization, apply systematic method to understand information system, designated
information system user web tools, technical Understand and information system security.

A. Five major function of finacle:

1. Finacle Assure- Finacle Assure is a preventive maintenance service to help banks manage
enterprise wide IT infrastructure and applications. The solution enables IT teams to focus on
preventing incidents rather than fixing problems after they’ve impacted services and users.
2. Finacle Testing Service- The business of banking is changing. Rapid technology evolution and
changing customer preferences are the norm. To keep pace with these changes, banks must
bring innovative, customer-centric products to the market, faster, while ensuring the highest
quality. Finacle provides a comprehensive suite of testing services to banks that enable them to
provide seamless banking services to customers with no disruption.
3. Application development & maintenance- Develop new applications that a bank requires to
transact business efficiently, in a continuously changing business environment.

 4. Application Management- Finacle solutions are at the nerve center of a bank’s operations and
constitute a mission critical element in the bank’s business organization. With customers
demanding speed, convenience, differentiation and superior service, it is critical to ensure that

Benefits of having Finacle as information system:

 It is safer and less time consuming.

 The system easily suits with users.
 Finacle Information System is substantial and cool to use.
 This system is not much expensive to use.

2. Apply System Approach to Understand System

Finacle programming framework is utilized by the BRAC bank to method data framework. It
helps to store data and information and methodology business customary phase of process. There
are many sectors of Finacle which enables the bank to help in their business such as e-managing
an account, center keeping money, installment, store, treasury, operational, multichannel,
dashboard and so forth and it gives flawless and reliable creation to the bank. For these reasons
BRAC bank utilize Finacle for their managing an account IT getting to practically and
technically.

2.1. Input:
Finacle is fund programming. BRAC bank’s representative's information data like adjust check,
bank charge, bank credit, check, storage, exchange, contract, ATM exchange and those sorts of
records that bank uses for their everyday exchange. Without BRAC banks approved

3. Information system and web tools:

BRAC Bank uses web technologies to help and maintain their core banking process. BRAC
Bank uses two types of web technologies.
They are:
1. Intranet
2. Extranet
Intranet: An intranet is a private computer network based on the communication standards of
the Internet. It is smaller version of the Internet which only can be seen or operated by the
members of an organization. An organization can create a manageable and secure version of
World Wide Web. BRAC Bank staffs and personnel has their individual ID and Password so that
they can log onto core banking software to access and perform their designated job.

Extranet: It is an intranet that can be partially accessed by authorized outside users, enabling
businesses to exchange information over the Internet securely. It’s also a private network. BRAC
bank have some other business activities other than its customers. They have businesses with
other financial party for performing foreign settlement facilities to their consumer’s like Western
Union Money transfer etc. Here comes the use of extranet and besides, the information system
has also established a link through extranet with the central bank and other commercial banks.

Using intranet and extranet as web technologies BRAC bank Information System department are
getting lots of reparation to achieve its preferred goals. Certain facts are given below-

 Enabling employees to have up-to-date information at their fingertips

 Reduction of fraud or scam.
 performance reliability.
 getting customers satisfaction over online banking.
 receiving, recording and delivering banking data even faster.
 Supporting employees to simplify their regular actions.

4. Technical Understanding:

BRAC bank use finacle software and also uses SQL record in the information system.
Management information system are normally computer systems used for handling five key
mechanisms those are hardware, software, data, procedures, people. Controlling information
system is familiar from extra information system, in that way they are used to investigate and

smooth tactical and effective actions. Management information system (MIS) delivers
information that society need to succeed them efficiently and effectively.

 1. E-Commerce: E-Commerce is the dealings or facilitation of trading in products or service
using computer networks, such as the Internet. Digitally enabled commercial transactions
between and among organizations and individuals. Electronic commerce attracts on
technologies such as mobile commerce, electronic funds transfer, and supply chain
management, Internet marketing, online transaction, processing, electronic data interchange,
inventory management system and automated data collection system.

2. SMS Banking: SMS Banking is a form of mobile banking and customer manage their account
via mobile phone. It is a facility used by some banks or other financial institution to send
message to customer’s mobile phones.

Using SMS messaging on a service provided by them which enables its customers to perform
some financial transaction using SMS. It kept updated on important information when it
concerns business matters. Clients can automatically receive information about his account
balance. SMS Banking uses a short text messages sent through the client’s phone.

Data mining example: Using the database of BRAC bank

Easy Data Mining, easily from data to success. A bank has data about clients to whom it gave
credits in the past. The client data contain personal data; data describing the financial status and
the financial behavior before and at the time the client is divided into four classes. The first class
contains all those clients who paid back the credit without any problems; the second class those
who paid back with little problem here and there; the third contain those who should only get a
credit after detailed checks because substantial problems of pay back occurred in the past, and
the fourth class consists of all those who did not pay back at all using this data table a prediction
model is created in order to predict the probability for each class for new clients. By the way, the
combination of attribute which are responsible for clients to have a high probability of not
paying back will be identified by the prediction model. The example shows how data mining can
help the BRAC bank to better predict the credit worthiness of customers. This helps to reduce the
number of loan defaults on the one hand. On the other it also allows to offer better conditions to
other customers with lower risk. Both the bank and its customers are therefore benefiting from
this advantage.

5. SECURITY OF INFORMATION SYSTEM:

We found five information system threats, these threats negatively dominated the system:

 Windows XP operating system is back dated, Most of the workstations use a backdated
operating system that often slows down the operational process and limits the overall
functioning of information system.

 Most of the junior level officers and staffs are not sufficiently knowledgeable considering the
overall information system and accurate functioning for the set up and for this reason
insufficient knowledge can soar the institution in the long run.

  A BRAC bank use network which is based on where to link the workstations with the essential
server that is located at the head office and this might stoppage a high risk of data harm due to
a network interruption arising out of the defective wires.

 The information system which is used in BRAC bank limited is of a real time behavior and any
mistreatment by any of the officials can compromise there liability of the record even though
the reunion of the transaction .

 BRAC bank use wire based network, for this reason there have also a threat of hacking.

5.3 Some Suggestion of security management tool:

If a person wants to flourish unauthorized access to data in a system, we suggest them to, after
logging into the bank’s existing site, account bearers are being drilled by the after of training in a
new “upgraded security system”. Money of BRAC bank transferred out of the BRAC bank
account, but this mystical from the user. BRAC bank official consultation, use, up-to-date anti-
virus software and be open eyed. The device uses to insert a card or a code to create a unique key
at each login, just for about 30 seconds that cannot be used again in the system.

If BRAC bank server damage has another site to save the entire thing. Our prescription is to
steerage loss need to place computer-based access control more dynamic. For this reason,
scanning all incoming e-mail via antivirus. It is necessary to scan all incoming email to secure
the device.

Conclusion

In this project work, we tried to provide valuable information about the BRAC bank information
system and our project work is very interesting. Most of the data and procedures of our project,
which is used in the information system, were not revealed due to the confidentiality and

business mysteries. This investigation has lots of news of banking operation. We effort to cover
all the things which this project outline wants from us. We tried to give our best.
