Detailed Lesson Plan

Teaching in Mathematics
Grade IV

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils are expected to:

a. Learn about the dimensional shapes

b. Understand what is dimension all about
c. Determine which is the 2dimension and 3Dimension

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Two- and Three-Dimensional Shapes

Materials: Visual aid, pen, projector and laptop
Subject Integration: English, Math and Mother Tongue

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparation
1. Prayer
Let us all stand and feel the presence of (Pupils all stand and pray)
God.
(In the name of the father of the son and
of the holy spirit AMEN)

Good morning class, how are you today? We’re good teacher!

It is nice to hear that.

2. Checking Attendance
Class, who is absent today? None teacher

Okay very good, we have a perfect

attendance for today.

None teacher
B. Drill
Okay class, before we start let us all stand
and stretch your arm and face. Let us sing Student participated
a folk song while you stomp your feet
C. Review

Class can I ask of you regarding the last Okay teacher!

topic that we tackled last meeting?

Did you remember what was our topic I teacher!

last meeting?

Yes, Andre? Our topic last meeting was all about the
introduction of dimensional figures

Very Good!
Okay, what is your opinion about I teacher
dimension?

Yes, Kenny Dimension is a form of shape to particular

measurements.
Very excellent class!
D. Motivation
Now, class I will group you into two
groups. After that you listen to my
instruction.

Group 1. will draw a shape of triangle, (The pupils participated)

circle, square and rectangle.

Group 2. will draw a shape of cube,

cylinder and cone.

Each group will guess what dimension of

the shape.

E. Presentation

Okay class, in your observation what is

our topic all about? I teacher!

Yes, Sam? Our topic for today is all about the 2 and 3
dimensional shapes

Very Good! Sam

Our topic for today is all about the 2 and

3 dimensional shapes.
F. Discussion

Class, when you hear the word shape, I teacher!

what come in your mind?
Yes, Kaye? For me ma’am, shape can be defined as the form
of an object or its outline, outer boundary or
outer surface.

Very good! How about 2 and 3 Dimension I teacher!

Yes, Marjurry? I think 2 dimensions is compose of length and

width and 3 dimensions is a solid form of shape.

Okay very good!

As we look the chart

A two-dimensional shape is a shape that

has length and width but no depth. In
mathematics, shapes are derived from
objects in the real world that have
common geometric attributes. A circle,
triangle square rectangle and pentagon
these are the example of a two-
dimensional shape.

In geometry, a three-dimensional shape

can be defined as a solid figure or an
object or shape that has three
dimensions – length, width and height.
Unlike two-dimensional shapes, three-
dimensional shapes have thickness or
depth.

In short class, a two-dimensional (2D)

shape has only two measurements, such
as length and height. A square, triangle,
and circle are all examples of a 2D shape.
However, a three-dimensional (3D) shape
has three measurements, such as length,
width, and height.

Okay class let me ask you, when can you

say if it is a 2 dimensional or 3 I teacher!
dimensional shapes

Yes, Anji? As I understand the lesson ma’am that 2

dimensions if the shape has no depth but there is
a length and width compare to the 3 dimension
has a depth, width and length.

Very good!

Note class that 2D and 3D has a length

and with except for the 3D has a depth
and 2D has a no depth. In short 3D is a
solid shape unlike the 2D.

G. Application

Now, I will group you into two groups.

Each member of the group will guess the
shape that I show in the power point.

Okay Class are you ready? Yes teacher!

Pupils participated.

H. Generalization

Okay class, what have you learned today? I teacher!

Yes, Anne? I learned the differences between the

2dimensional shapes and 3 dimensional shapes

Very good! Okay class what is the

difference between the 2dimensional I teacher!
shapes and 3 dimensional shapes
Yes, Brian? The difference between the 2dimensional shapes
and 3 dimensional shapes is that 2dimensional
shapes has no depth compare to 3 dimensional
has a depth

Very Good!

Okay now let’s have a quiz

Get one whole sheet of intermediate
paper.
IV. Evaluation

Direction: Draw 3 pieces of 2 dimensional shapes and 4 pieces of 3 dimensional shapes with
label.

Possible Answer:

V. Assignment
Direction: Make an object, one for the 2 dimensional and one for the 3 dimensional. Pass it
on next meeting.
