3 TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

3.1 General

Reference Drawing: K5489G01

The davit consists of the following main parts:

• Guiding frame
• King w/el-motor
• Inner Jib
• Outer Jib

3.2 Design and Function

An electro-hydraulic power pack is built into the davit and forms an integrated part of its
structure. It is only necessary to supply power to the electric motor in order for the davit
to become operational.

The electric motor is of protection class IP56 and is fitted with still-stand heating.

A hydraulic hand pump is fitted for emergency launching of the fast rescue craft during
dead ship conditions onboard. The same hydraulic handpump is fitted for hoisting of the
fast rescue craft during dead ship conditions onboard.

3.2.1 Control Stand

A hydraulic remote control stand is supplied loose with the davit for permanent
installation in the most suitable location.

The control system is of hydraulic type and all speed controls are of infinite variable
control and may be accurately controlled from zero to maximum stated speeds.

An electric starter, Direct-On-Line of protection is included. The starter comes with a

remote start/stop button of protection class IP56 suitable for location close to the davit.

3.2.2 Winch

A winch of required capacity is mounted on the davit. The winch is fitted with non-
rotating wire rope of sufficient length to provide the stated hoisting height. A wedge lock
of required capacity is attached to the end of the wire rope.

3.2.3 Jib Cylinder

The swinging in and out of the davit during the stated heel plus trim conditions is
performed using a single hydraulic cylinder of marine quality. The piston rod of the
cylinder is chrome plated. This cylinder have an accumulator integrated on the piston
side. The piston side are prechanged with nitrogen when it is delivered from TTS
Marine ASA.

Nitrogen pressure are to situated between 133-200 bar

3.2.4 Hydraulic

The hydraulic oil reservoir is located inside the king. The pump supplies oil to the
inner/outer jib and the winch system. When none of the control handles are operated,
oil goes through the oil filter back to oil tank.

All external hydraulic pipes, coupling nuts, and support rings are of acid resistant
stainless steel material. The coupling bodies are of cadmium coated St. 52.3 mild steel
material. The pipes and pipe couplings are not painted.

The hose fittings are of chrome coated St. 52.3 mild steel material and protected by
anti-corrosion tape (Denso).

The davit is supplied fully lubricated and is ready for operation once the preparation has
been completed.

3.2.5 Surface Treatement

The davit is externally surface treated as follows:

• Shot blasted to SA 2,5.

• One layer of zinc epoxy, 50 my dry film thickness, as a primer.
• One layer of high-build epoxy, 100 my dry film thickness, as an inter-mediate
coat.
• One layer of polyurethane, 50 my dry film thickness, of selected colour as a top
coat.

The external paint system consists of 3 layers of paint to a total of 200 my dry film
thickness.

Internally (oil tank):

• Shot blasted to SA 2,5.

• One layer of zinc epoxy, 40 my dry film thickness.
