We are going to talk about Hedy Lamarr, who was an Austrian-born American actress,

inventor, and film producer.

Hedy Lamar, artistic name of Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler, was born on November 9, 1913 in
Vienna, Austria and died on January 19, 2000, near Orlando, Florida, U.S.

She started taking private lessons at the age of 4. By the time she was 10, she was already a
professional pianist and dancer and could speak four languages. Finally, at the age of 16, she
enrolled in Max Reinhardt's theatre school in Berlin and, in one year, made her film debut in
Money on the Street in 1930.

In 1937, she run way from her husband, a rich Austrian weapons manufacturer, secretly
moving to Paris and then on to London. It was in London that Hedy met Louis B. Mayer who
offered her a Hollywood movie contract, where he began promoting her as "the world's most
beautiful woman"

The highlight of his career was her performance in Algiers in 1938. She was honoured with a
star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. In addition to her extraordinary acting career,
Hedy also had a brilliant mind. Lamarr invented the system that served as the basis for cell
phones. During World War II, he created a sophisticated radio interference device to detect
Nazi radars that he patented in 1940, using her real name.

Hedy, on the other hand, was only officially recognized in 1997, when he received an
honourable mention from the American government for opening new paths in electronics.
From 2014, when he entered the US inventors' hall of fame, and especially in the last three
years, Hedy became better known to the general public.
