Goals of the Program:

Provide students with the tools and strategies to enable them to
succeed in their future careers in science and engineering.(5)

How Will You Communicate?

Communication between Mentor and Mentee is crucial for success.
In person is preferred, over the phone or virtual chat can be
done to accomodate schedules or necessary travel. (1,3)

How often do the mentor and mentee meet?

The time requirements are made to be flexible
around your schedule but a minimum of five 1
hour meetings over the 5 month semester. (1, 3)

One good mentor can be more informative than a college

education and more valuable that a decade's income

Suggested activities to Set Expectations and Goals

Mentors and Mentees will work together to answer questions such as:
What types of work are right for me? Mentees research possible career paths can generate career
options by assessing their personality, values, skills and interests.
What can I do with a degree in...? Mentees asking this question are ready to start exploring the career
possibilities in their areas of study and related fields.
What will employers expect from me once I'm hired? Mentors can
provide important insights into the "soft skills" required to be an effective
communicator and employee. (5)

Requirements
All volunteers and non-district employees working
with students are required to complete a volunteer
application and criminal record check (2,4)
