1. Explain 3 methodes of heat transfer along with the formula and example!

3. Newly formed concrete pipes are usually cured first overnight by steam in a curing kiln before the
pipes are cured for several days outside. The heat and moisture to the kiln is provided by steam
flowing in a pipe whose outer diameter is 12 cm. During a plant inspection, it was noticed that the
pipe passes through a 10 m section that is completely exposed to the ambient air before it reaches
the kiln. The temperature measurements indicate that the average temperature of the outer surface

of the steam pipe is 82 ° C when the ambient temperature is 8°C. Heat transfer coefficient at the
outer surface of the pipe is estimated to be 25 W /m 2 .° C . Determine the amount of heat lost from
the steam during the curing process that night.
