Question number 1 : Read the following case study and answer the underlined question.

Examine as to whether the consumers will be willing to pay increased prices to ensure that their
products are sustainably produced and packaged.

ANSWER

As due to social awareness, people got to know more about the harmful and harsh effects of
chemicals & industrial wastage on the environment. Many of them are concerned about the
products they consume as if they are environment friendly or not. Hence, a lot of consumers are
happily agreed to pay increased prices to ensure that the products they are using are not harming
environment in any way and they are sustainably produced & packaged. An increasing number
of customers being aware of environmental conservation and sustainability so that future
generations can live in a healthier environment. A survey conducted of 6000 consuemrs across
11 countires results showed that 83% of them stated that its extremely important for firms to
manufacture products that can be recycled & reused. According to the findings of an Accenture
poll, more than half of respondents stated they would pay more for sustainable items that could
be reused or recycled. Although, a particular segment of customers will always not be interested
in it and they will surely oppose to pay increased prices for the safety of environment as they
expect it as the baseline condition of manufacturing and are more importantly willing to punish
for it but not to pay. Although if such sort of strategies will be adopted by the firms, the
customers will knwoingly and unknwoingly be paying the prices for sustainable packaging &
product.
