Q1. In Gulliver’s Travels (Part I – Chapter III), we have seen that the candidates for great
employments and high favor at court need to entertain his majesty and the court. The better and more
he entertains, the better employment he secures. Relate this political scenario of Lilliput to the
political scenario of your country. Provide examples and/or evidences. (Word limit 250-300)
(10)
The political scenario of Lilliput can be somewhat compared to the country of Pakistan. Although we
do not live under a monarchy, we do have a system in which a person with high media coverage and a
high number of followers can get into a position of power with ease over a person who is much more
suitable for the actual job. This can be compared to the Lilliputians who dance on a rope to secure a
position of power. The tenure of the Lilliputian politicians is determined by the amount of time they
can stay on the rope. This can be compared to the popularity of a politician in Pakistan. As long as
they have media coverage and a cult following, they have a position of power in the country. As soon
as that media coverage and cult following dissipates, they are stripped of their power and glory.
Another example of Lilliputian politics can be compared to the political scenario of Pakistani politics
is when the noblemen are crawling under or leaping over sticks. Although this seems innocent, it has a
far darker meaning when compared to the real world. Pakistani people who apply for these jobs can be
civil servants who want to live a good life making an honest living. If they have a desire to become a
politician their power is used by others to benefit themselves i.e. a commissioner of the police can be
forced to look over a crime that is taking place by those who hold power over him in the political
scene, If he does not go according to their wishes, he might be removed from his position of power.
This sick game is a direct comparison of the sadistic nature of the emperors’ games.
a) Provide the meaning for each of the words or phrases written in BOLD.
Q3. Write an email to your teacher requesting him/her to extend your assignment deadline.
State logical reason for the extension too. (Word limit 100-150) (10)
Respected Madam,
I am writing this email to you to request an extension for the submission date for my Cost Accounting
final project. The original due date was the 9th of February 2020, but I regret to inform you that I won’t
be able to meet this deadline. The reason for this delay is due to the severity of my health condition
right now. As you may have been already informed by the administration, I have contracted the novel
Covid-19 virus. As a result of this, I have been admitted into a quarantine ward in the National
Hospital and Medical Center. My doctors have told me that I will recover within the next few weeks.
Therefore, I humbly request that you extend the due date of my final project from the 9th of February
to the 25th of February. I have also attached the relevant documents below. Thank you for your
consideration.

I am writing this letter in a response to your job advertisement for an Online English instructor
which I saw on one of my social media platforms. My experience and education in this field is a
perfect match for your job requirements. Thus, I am very excited and interested in the hope of
joining your team.
All my life, I have had a passion for teaching. Whether it be my fellow classmates at school or the
unprivileged children at the S.O.S village, I have always gone above and beyond the call of duty
when it came to teaching. I became interested in the teaching profession and particularly the
English language because of my Literature instructor back at my school, Aitchison College. She
was my first instructor who made her class enjoyable and at the same time very intellectual.
Following her lead, I became proficient in the use of the English Language. At the age of 17, I
gave the I.E.L.T.S exam and secured a perfect score which was 9. After I finished my A-Level
exams, I joined my university with a double major in English Communications and passed with an
honors degree.
After securing my degree, I travelled to Canada to get myself a teaching certification (TESOL
Canada). I secured it within 4 months and applied for a job at a high school in Toronto, Canada. I
became an English instructor at the Delano academy. I worked at the Delano academy with a team
of expert English Instructors for four years and after that I came back to Pakistan. I have attached
my resume below for you to review. I am anxiously waiting for your answer. I am available to
start as soon as the 20th of February.
If you need to contact me for further information, please feel free to call me on my work number
which I have given above.
Thank you.
