Distinguished Participants, Ladies and Gentlemen

Good Morning
Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
May prosperity be with you all.
Ladies and Gentlemen

First of all, let us give thanks to God almighty that we can meet today in
good health to carry out the NWP training, in the midst of the COVID-19
outbreak, may GOD give us healthy.

On this special occasion, I would like to express my gratitude, it’s a great

pleasure for being here and meeting you all in this opening ceremony of
the Real-Time Online Course On Operation And Utilization Of Nwp
For Meteorological Services from 7 until 17 June 2021. I would like
to extend my sincere gratitude to the Korean Meteorological Agency
(KMA) for its initiative and continuous support in preparing this training.

Distinguished Participants, Ladies and Gentlemen,

As we know that the last cooperation that BMKG had with KMA is in
2019, through Education and Training Centre BMKG. Now, in 2021, KMA
and BMKG joined together again in collaboration, through the Research
and Development Center by creating Ina-NWP. This collaboration between
BMKG and KMA is to develop a global downscaling model (NWP) with a
resolution of 9 km for the Indonesian domain and 3 km for the Java
domain by entering local weather observation data to correct the global
model (assimilation). Expectedly, by assimilation of this data, the
accuracy of the forecast will be better.

Ladies and gentlemen,

As for, the main objective of developing the Indonesia Numerical
Weather Forecast (Ina-NWP) is to create independence in producing high-
resolution weather forecast information with high skill of forecasting.
Reliable human resources for the development of the NWP are sufficient.
The weather database must has been collected and archived properly.
Operation of NWP also needs a High-Performance Computing (HPC) as a
support. However, even the NWP BMKG run properly, there is still need
for improvement in every aspect: the human resource, data, and also
facilities that support Ina-NWP BMKG.

Distinguish Participants, Ladies and gentlemen,

Complementing the human resource capabilities in the development
of this Ina-NWP Model, KMA and BMKG held the NWP training. Through
this training, there will be appropriate design for Ina-NWP, also the
participants expected to gain practical knowledge in developing NWP
downscaling. In addition, good cooperation between BMKG and KMA can
encourage the use of the global NWP KMA model as the initial condition.
And In the future, we kindly please KMA love to share their experience
(knowledge sharing) more in developing global models.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Last but not least, we are looking forward to successful training.
Thus, I strongly encouraged all the participants to become actively
engaged in all training activities both in synchronous/live sessions and
asynchronous sessions. I hope we can use this opportunity to improve
our knowledge and skills in order to support the improvement of Ina-NWP
in all participants. And we also hope that BMKG and KMA will continue to
collaborate in the future.

Thank you for your kind cooperation and attention.

May everyone be safe and healthy, and have a successful training course
for all of us.

Wassamu’alaikum Warahmatullohi Wabarakatuh.
