ADMISSION GUIDELINES FOR Ph.D.

PROGRAMMES

Admission to Ph.D. programmes will be on the basis of a Research Entrance Test to be


held on Saturday, 21 st August 2021 and the Personal Interview which will be conducted
by the respective DRACs, the schedule of which will be announced later.
Candidates with M.Phil. degree and those who have qualified a National level
examination like NET/SET etc. are exempt from the requirement of RET.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The minimum requirement for admission to Ph.D. programme is 55% or equivalent CCWA or
CGPA in the Postgraduate examination in the subject or an allied discipline, as per the
provisions of the Ph.D. Bylaws of the University, subject to a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/OBC
and PWD candidates.
ADMISSION PROCESS
Step 1: Ph.D. programmes Available
 The University offers Ph.D. programme in the Faculty of Science, Arts and Social
Science, Commerce and Management.

Step 2: Submission of Admission form

 The admission forms are available on https://icfia.org/iisu/apply.


 Fill in all the information in the application form and also upload the required
documents.
 Recheck and verify the details filled in and submit the form along with a payment of
Rs. 4500/- , which can be made online using credit/debit card or net banking.
 Alternatively, procure an application form from the University on a payment of
Rs.4500/-, and submit the duly filled in form along with the requisite documents.
 Scrutiny of the submitted forms will be done and if no deficiencies are found, the
candidate will be emailed detailed instructions regarding RET / Direct admission
process (whichever applicable).

Step 3: Appear in Research entrance test (RET)


 Appear in the online research entrance test on the scheduled date i.e. August
21,2021.
 Once the RET is cleared, the candidate will have to appear in the DRAC meeting, the
schedule of which will be informed through e-mail.
 The admission is offered on the basis of merit, computed on the score in RET, (for
candidates other than those seeking admission on the basis of M.Phil. or NET or SET),
Academic Record and Personal Interview, with relative weightage as mentioned in
the IISU Ph.D. Bye laws, subject to availability of seats. The lISU Ph.D Bye laws are

 Attend the respective DRAC meeting for personal interview, complete the necessary
formalities.
Step 4: Fee deposition
 Deposit the required fee for Ph.D. programme via online/ offline mode within the
stipulated period.

Please note:

 For candidates seeking RET exemption, admission will be finalized after DRAC
meeting on the basis of Academic Record and Personal Interview, with relative
weightage as mentioned in the IISU Ph.D. Bye laws, subject to availability of seats.
 For qualifying RET, an applicant shall have to secure a minimum of 50% of the total
marks.

 Candidates whose PG Final year/semester results are not yet declared by the
University will be given provisional admission to Ph.D. programmes on clearing the
RET or through direct process and submission of mark sheets of PG I year/ I-III
semesters. However, their admission will be confirmed subject to fulfillment of
eligibility requirements as mentioned above.
 The provisional admission will be confirmed once the candidate submits proofs for
qualifying the PG exam and fulfilling the eligibility requirements. If the same are not
fulfilled provisional admission will be treated as cancelled. In such cases refund of
fee will be done as per University Rules.
 Documents required for admission to the University include:
1. Marksheet of the Secondary examination (one self-attested copy and original for
verification)
2. Marksheet of the qualifying examination (PG Final year/Final semester) (in
original) plus 2 self-attested copies
3. Transfer Certificate from the institution last attended (in original)
4. Character Certificate from the institution last attended (in original)
5. Migration Certificate (in original) plus 2 self-attested photocopies
7. Student Aadhar Card (self-attested copy)
 If at any stage, it is found that a candidate does not satisfy the eligibility criteria or
the information furnished by her is incorrect, her application for the admission to the
Programme, even if selected and fees paid, will automatically stand cancelled.

SYLLABI FOR RET


The syllabi for RET is as prescribed by the UGC for NET, however in the disciplines
where UGC/CSIR NET-JRF syllabi are not available, the syllabi will be designed by
the concerned Department / Discipline of the university and will be applicable to
RET after being approved by the Board of Studies in the discipline and the
Academic Council.

PATTERN OF RESEARCH ENTRANCE TEST


 There will be a separate Research Entrance Test for each subject / discipline, as per
the outline syllabus given in Schedule – 3 of the IISU Ph.D. Byelaws.
 The entrance test shall be based on Multiple Choice Questions with four options.
Examinees will have to select only one correct option from the given four options.
 The Question paper shall consist of 100 multiple choice questions.
 The duration of test will be 2 hrs.
 Each question will carry one 1 mark; there shall be no negative marking.
 The Paper will be divided into two sections, Section 'A' and Section 'B'.
Section 'A'
(i) For disciplines (in the faculties of Science, Arts & Social Sciences,
Commerce & Management), other than languages (English, Hindi, French
and German) : Questions in Section 'A' will be of general nature to test
the Research aptitude of the candidates and will consist of 50 multiple -
choice questions, carrying 1 mark each.
(ii) For Language disciplines (English, Hindi, French and German) : This
section will aim at evaluating the candidate's proficiency in the use of that
language. The section will consist of two questions - Q. No. 1 and Q No. 2.
Q. No. 1 will require the candidate to write a brief essay, carrying 20
marks. In Q. No. 2 the candidate will be asked to attempt a piece of
writing, which will involve building up an argument. Q. No. 2 will carry 30
marks.
Section 'B'
Section 'B' of the papers for all disciplines (including languages) will consist of 50
multiple - choice questions of specialized nature and will be discipline specific.
The level of questions in this section shall be of post - graduate level in the
concerned subject. The syllabus for Section 'B' shall be the same as the syllabus
of UGC/CSIR NET-JRF Examination (Section B) wherever prescribed.
 Total of marks obtained in Section-A and Section-B (taken together) in the RET shall
be taken into consideration for the purpose of qualifying in RET and the merit list.

INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING TEST CONDUCTION


 The test shall be conducted with remote proctored online solution. It is recommended
that the candidates take the test on their Laptops/ Desk tops with a working Webcam &
Microphone with stable Internet Speed (>512 KBPS)
The Supported Browsers are:
i) Google Chrome Version 63 and above
ii) Firefox Version 52 and above
iii) Safari Version 12 and above
Candidates are required to ensure the availability of same along with high speed
Internet connection.
 In case of non-availability of laptops/desk tops, candidates can take the test on their
smart phones with a high-speed internet data. The test can be taken on an Android
device. The test is not supported by on iPhone (iOS) device. If a candidate has an
iPhone, she is advised to make arrangements for a laptop or an android phone.
 It is recommended that the mobiles/laptops may be fully charged a day before the test
to avoid last minute glitches like electricity failure.
 It is strongly recommended that candidates do not navigate to any other window during
the test duration. Mobile phones should be kept on ‘Do Not Disturb” (DND) mode if the
test is being taken on mobile phones.
 The email address mentioned in the registration form will have to be filled on the
registration page to start the test.
 Candidates are not required to download any application for this online test. A link will
be sent from admin@mettl.com on the registered email address of the candidates.
Candidates are advised to save the above email address so that the mails sent from
admin@mettl.com do not go to spam. Kindly ensure that a valid email address is filled
in the registration form to ensure smooth conduct of the test.
 Candidates should keep a valid identity card like, Aadhar/Pan Card/Driving License
handy before logging in to the examination portal.
