                                                   Digital Photography

Digital Image Capture
A digital camera is used to take photographs which are then stored on a computer in
digital form. In a digital camera the lens focuses depending on the light, you can use
different lenses to capture different shots such as capturing a wider angled shot or to
zoom in or out to focus on the image being taken. The images are then stored
on a SD card to save space and to store the memory onto the
card. However different memory cards can be used as some are faster or have a
higher capacity. A JPEG file can be used to reduce the number of pixels being used so
the image comes out clearer, and a RAW file is very large and is mainly used for
Photoshop images and it contains a lot of detailed image data.

SD (Secure Digital) - is a common memory card used in portable

cameras and can be used in most digital cameras.

SDXC (Secure Digital Xtra Capacity) - these SD cards work more faster

and has more space to store things.

Micro SD Memory Cards - these SD memory cards are more for

storing things into phones as they are built small for the size of
the phone.

SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) - These SD cards are only used for
digital cameras as they are also built small and have higher capacity to
store more data.

Storage
There are many different ways to store digital photos for example using a USB stick.
A USB stick stores data in flash drive. They are quite small, and they are easy to carry
around, using this it can save many things such as documents and photos. Another
source of storage that can be used to store digital photography is a hard dick drive is
a memory device which permanently stores what is saved to it. These have a large
capacity of space and are mostly used for computers to store data. One thing that
is mostly used by a lot of people is the cloud. This is a safer way to store data from
the internet also it is not like a USB is it something which saved data from the
internet. A big benefit of cloud storage for individuals is the extra space one gets on
the local machine when you move all images, documents and videos to the cloud.
You also don’t have to spend much money on computers with big hard drives.
Types of Cameras

Compact These cameras
camera  are usually used
for holidays. U
can't change the

bring.

DSLR  A DSLR camera
allows you to
see a live view
of the image
you’re shooting.
These cameras
are a lot bigger
and can change
lens.
Smartpho Smartphones
ne  have a built-in
digital camera
so the
device can be
used
anywhere. The
quality of the
images is differe
nt depending on
the make of the
product.

GoPro  A small light
weight camera
which can
capture images
and videos in
high definition.

photographs to
store them into
an SD card. They
have a good
quality lens
meaning better
focus.

Image manipulation

Image manipulation means changing aspects of an image, to create the desired

product. A photographer can manipulate the outcome of an image, while taking it, by
using lens filters. There are different types of lens filters, such as colour filters.
Coloured filters are typically used to correct any excess colour in a photo. Another
filter used is Polarising Filters, these are placed in front of a camera lens, to darken
the look of the sky, manage reflections and suppress glare. Lastly a UV/Clear Filters –
These lens simply protect the camera lens.

In addition to this, the modes on a digital camera are also used to change the effect of
an image. The four modes are:
• Manual (M) – This allows you to manually set the aperture and the shutter speed,
allowing you to fully take over the exposure controls.
• Aperture Priority – This allows you to manually set the aperture levels, while the
camera chooses the right shutter speed.
• Shutter Priority –This allows you to set the shutter speed, while it controls the
aperture levels, depending on the amount of light.
• Program – Camera automatically sets the shutter speed and aperture levels. This is
the mode used for ‘point and shoot’ moments.

Product process
Importing the pictures from your camera to your computer is easy, and is what most
people do using a sort of storage devices such as an SD card which is imported
from a digital device. Such as a computer, a camera, and the SD card which is a form
of digital devices. The process you need to do to get an image from a camera to it
being printed is:
1) Remove the SD card from the camera, then insert into computer until it clicks.
2) A windows computer will ask you what you want to do next. This is where you
choose the ‘Open folder to view files’ option.
3) You will see a folder called ‘DCIM. This folder’s where all the photos and
everything is stored. You then click the folder and open your photos, and then select
the ones you want to copy then you're done.

When filming or
taking photographs other equipment are used such as:
A tripod: It makes the photo come our steady and straight, to make sure the quality
is good, and it doesn’t come out blurred.
Lighting: lighting would make the photo more clear and better quality. Different
lightbulbs can change the lighting.
Lenses: using different lenses can give different effects of quality. Also, a lens filter
can be used while taking to pictures as it can alter the picture.
Backdrops: A backdrop can be used because it could make the photos look more
professional as it will set a tone depending on the type of background.
