MEETING 1 ENGLISH

Answer

1. The first use of the word "computer" was recorded in 1613, referring to a person who
carried out calculations, or computations, and the word continued with the same
meaning until the middle of the 20th century. And A computer is a general-purpose device
that can be programmed to carry out a finite set of arithmetic or logical operations. Or Also, we
can say.. An electronic device that stores, retrieves, and processes data, and can be programmed
with instructions.

2. The four main parts of a computer are: 1. Hardware 2. Software 3. Data 4. Brainware (User)

3. Yes, functionally it can be said that a calculator is a computer. Why ? because the calculator
fulfills all 3 conditions.
A. The calculator can receive input from the user in the form of numbers that must be solved
B. The calculator can perform computational processes on the given input.
C. The calculator can produce output that is the result of the calculations performed.

4. How the computer works Computers work by doing three stages, namely:
A. Receives information from input devices such as keyboards and mice
B. Processing information received on the CPU or Central Processing Unit
C. Present processed information to users through output devices such as monitors, printers, and
others.

5. We can say that input device is any kinds of devices that can be used to input any data to a
computer. The First one is an input device. There are many kinds of input devices. The most
commonly used is a keyboard. Others are mouse, light pen, microphone, trackball, camera (for
example webcam), etc.

6. The first processor started in 1971 when Intel released its first processor to be used in the Buscom
compute machine. This is an invention that started inserting intelligent systems into machines.
This processor is called the 4004 microprocessor. This Intel 4004 chip started the development of
the CPU by pioneering the placement of all components of the calculating machine in one IC. At
this time the IC is working on only one task.
7. The second generation of computer began with the the invention of transistors to replace the use
of vacuum tubes. The effect of this invention is the reduction in the size of computers. The size of
a transistor may be like peanuts. That’s why there is a significant reduction in the size of
computer.

8. Other Transistor Functions:

 As an amplifier amplifier.
 As a breaker and connector (switch).
 As a voltage regulator.
 As operates the current. Can withstand most of the current lows.
Amplifies the current in the circuit. As a low frequency generator or high.

9. Mini and Mainframe Computers Very powerful, used by large organizations such as banks to
control the entire business operation. Very expensive.

10. VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) Is the packing of hundreds of thousands of electronic
components on a single semiconductor chip.
