HOW TO OPERATE THE COMPUTER

Computer can be operated with following from the physical part of a


complete system (HARDWARE).
BOOTING: This is the act of getting the computer ready by switching
on the power button. There are two types of booting;
i. COLD BOOTING: This can be define as starting the computer
by pressing the power button on both CPU and MONTIOR
ii. WARM BOOTING: This can be referred to as restarting the
computer the computer system that is already working by
pressing Alt Key + CTRL KEY + DEL KEY on the keyboard at
the same time.
DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT: This can be referred to as
graphic background of the computer that we arrive at
immediately after the booting.
The desktop environment consists of
I. Wallpaper
II. Icons such as My Computer, My document, Recycle Bin,
Internet Explore.
III. Taskbar
IV. Mouse Pointer
V. Window control button
Maximize _______ Minimize and close
X
VI. Start icon: which is responsible for opening of any program and
shutting down the computer system after use
OPENING OF PROGRAMS TO START THE
PROGRAMM
1. Click on the Start Icon
2. Move to all program and click any program of your choice e.g.
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel etc.
3. Move to all program and click any program of your choice e.g.
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel etc.
SHUTTING DOWN OF PROGRAM
1. Click on start icon
2. Click on Shut Down from the option given
3. Click ok
4. Tune the power button
MASTERING KEYS ON KEYBOARD
Keys on the keyboard are classified into five (5) major parts

1. Numeric keys 0 -9
2. Letters Keys A-Z
3. Navigator or Cursor keys
4. Functional keys F1 – F12
5. Special key: This keys consist of
a. Esc (Escape) for Cancellation
b. Cap Lock for Capital Letters
c. Space bar – For Spacing
d. Tab –For Paragraph
e. Enter – To create a new line
f. Backspace – to remove unwanted text back words
(Note the cursor must be at the back of the mistake)
g. Delete – to remove unwanted text forwardly (Note the
cursor must be in front of the mistake)
