Report Question Answer:
Part A:
1) In amplitude modulation, the amplitude of the carrier wave varies in accordance with
the instantaneous values of the modulating voltage. A carrier wave, after being modulated, if
the modulated level is calculated, then such an attempt is called as Modulation Index or
Modulation Depth.

2) Amplitude modulation produces a signal with power concentrated at the carrier

frequency and in two adjacent sidebands. Amplitude modulation that results in two sidebands
and a carrier is often called double sideband amplitude modulation (DSB-AM).

3) It states the level of modulation that a carrier wave undergoes. It is called as

undermodulation. 100% modulated signal can be obtained when message and carrier
amplitudes are equal. If the value of the modulation index is greater than 1, i.e., 1.5
4) If the modulation signal frequency increases, the amplitude of the carrier changes at a
greater rate. If the modulation signal frequency increases, the sidebands move further from
the carrier.

5) Variable resistor VR1 is used to change the operation point of the transistor and it also
used to control the magnitude of the carrier, which inputs into the collector of the transistor.

Part B:
1) Demodulating amplifier block is used to amplify the received signal.
2) Diode detection method is only applicable for undermodulation and 100% modulation.
Overmodulated signal cannot be reconstructed using diode detection method.

3) Overmodulated signal cannot be reconstructed using diode detection method.

overmodulated signal the envelope distorts.

4) Advantage :
1.Low cost 2.Simple
Disadvantage :
1.Distortion 2.Insensitive

Discussion:
From this experiment, we see that double side band amplitude modulation technique
and also see that demodulating technique using diode detection method. We also learn about 3
different types of modulation index. When we demodulated message signal by diode detection
technique we are facing some problem because message signal did not reconstruct perfectly.
