SYNOPSIS
Topic: Convention centre at Hubli.

INTRODUCTION:
A convention centre or conference centre is a large building that is designed to hold a
convention, where individuals and groups gather to promote and share common interests.
Convention centers typically offer sufficient floor area to accommodate several thousand
attendees. Very large venues, suitable for major trade shows, are sometimes known as
exhibition halls. Convention centers typically have at least one auditorium and may also
contain concert halls, lecture halls, meeting rooms, and conference rooms. Some large resort
area hotels include a convention centre.
Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibitions (MICE) are today becoming an important
segment of the tourism industry. With the opening up of India’s economy, MICE tourism is
likely to grow further in the future. Our country therefore needs more Convention and
Exhibition Centres to meet the requirement of this lucrative segment of the tourism. Taking
this fact into consideration, therefore, the Ministry of Tourism has decided to grant approval
to convention centres to encourage investment and standardize facilities at the convention
centres.

AIM:
To design a building which could function as a convention centre and meet the requirements
of the city. It was also made an aim to overcome the limitations of the public building and
make it interact with the surrounding at different levels.
To develop the facilities & the amenities at the convention centre which could serve the
people in the most functional way & also to create a perfect ambience, so that people tends to
visit.
Efficient and aesthetic creation of spaces inside and outside the convention centre.
To generate a vocabulary and design temperament of the project for architectural expression
that will reflect the urban character of that place.

OBJECTIVES:
To develop a platform for global business opportunities contributing the motive of the city
and help grow of global traders. Also, to conduct culture events and create a place for
gathering which nourish the social interaction of local with the foreign public.
• To create flexible spaces for variety of events.
• To house activities for people on daily basis.
• Maintain a balance in daily activity and event spaces.

LIMITATION:
The design limits in addressing the site zoning with a layout of activities in campus.

PROPOSAL:
I want to propose it in the Hubli, Karnataka. As Hubli is 2nd largest city in Karnataka.

NEED:
Hubli city feels the need for such infrastructure, that could provide a facilities to organize
exhibitions, trade shows, buyer and seller meet, seminar etc. making facilities such as
exhibition halls and convention centre to the Hubli-Dharwad smart city would help in further
economic growth. This will be the fertiliser to grow more opportunities, business, trade and
over all development of the country.
SMART CITY VISION -Hubballi Dharwad aspires to be the gateway to southern Deccan
region, for trade, business and commerce. It intends to achieve this, with the spirit of
inclusion and citizen empowerment, by synergizing the locational advantage, technology,
infrastructure, manpower resource and smart governance. This will also make the city high
on liveability and sustainability, preserving its rich cultural heritage.

GEOGRAPHY:
Climate
Hubli-Dharwad has a tropical wet and dry climate. Summers are hot and dry, lasting from
late February to early June. They are followed by the monsoon season, with moderate
temperatures and a large amount of precipitation. Temperatures are fairly moderate from late
October to early February, with virtually no rainfall. Hubli is 640 meters above sea level. The
average yearly rainfall is 838 mm.

TOPOGRAPHY:
The study area falls in the western-ghat section (sahyadris) of the peninsula within the rugged
foothills. An undulating central Pediplain and the eastern maidan is the prominent feature. It
situated at an altitude of 753 m (N-W Dharwad Tk) to 558 mamsl.
The lateritic brownish sandy soil occurs in the western region with 19.62-to 3.6-cm/hour rate
of infiltration characteristic. The black cotton soil in the eastern part having 2.0 to 5.0 metres
thickness, are high humus and low phosphate content, with normal pH-value and very low
infiltration characteristic. The Loamy to kankary soil are seen along the banks of river/stream
courses.

TRANSPORT:
Road
Hubli lies on the "Golden Quadrilateral". Asian Highway 47 passes through Hubli. It lies on
National Highway 63 (Ankola–Gooty) and National Highway 218 (Hubli–Humnabad), which
connect Hubli with major cities in the region. NWKRTC (North West Karnataka Road
Transport Corporation) is a state-run corporation headquartered at Hubli. A semi ring road
connecting NH4 (Pune–Bangalore), NH67 (Ankola–Gooty) and NH218 (Hubli–Humnabad)
is already under construction.
Rail
Hubli Junction railway station, South Western Railway headquarters
The city currently has four stations and one Junction. The Hubli Junction railway station is
the main railway station in the city with a built-up area of 161,460 sq. ft. . The other stations
are Hubli South, Hubli East, Unkal, and Amargol. Hubli is the headquarters of the South
Western Railway zone. It was carved out as a zone from the current South Central Railway. It
is the centre for the Hubli Division. The Hubli Division is one of the highest revenue-
generating divisions in India. Hubli is well-connected by the Indian Rail Network. Several
express, superfast and Jan Shatabdi trains ply between Hubli and Bangalore every day. Hubli,
an important railway junction, has daily trains connecting with major towns across the
country.
Air
Hubli Airport
Hubli Airport (IATA: HBX, ICAO: VOHB) is a domestic airport serving the twin cities of
Hubli-Dharwad and North Karnataka in the state of Karnataka, India. It is situated on Gokul
Road, 8 kilometres from city centre and 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Dharwad. It is the third
busiest airport in Karnataka after Bangalore and Mangalore (both are international airports),
the 45th busiest airport in India. Hubli airport connects to 10 destinations throughout the
country. Efforts are being taken to upgrade it to international standards.

DEMOGRAPHY:
The population of the twin cities as per provisional figures of Census 2011 is 943,857 and is
urban. Hubli-Dharwad's population increased by 22.99% between 1981 and 1991, from
527,108 to 648,298, and by 21.2% between 1991 and 2001. The municipality covers
213 km2.

ECONOMY:
Hubli is one of the commercial hubs of Karnataka. It has a wide cluster of industries and has
more than a lakh small and medium industries. The Government of India has set up a
Software Technology Park of India on Pune–Bangalore Road and Aryabhata Tech Park in
Navanagar region of Hubli. The city is situated on the dividing line between Malnad and the
Deccan plateau. Malnad is well known for its forests and forest-based industries and the other
three sides are known for their agricultural products including cotton, groundnut, and
oilseeds, as well as manganese ore and granite.
