OPERATION & RESULT RESULT COMPARED TO

AREAS AREA T (The whole
Tangram)

A+B ¼ + ¼ = 2/4 or 1/2 ½ of T

C+E
D+F+
A 1/4 of T
G
B 1/4 of T

B+D C 1/16 of T

D 1/8 of T
F E 1/16 of T

F 1/8 of T
G+D
G 1/8 of T

Organize your results from the least fraction to the greatest fraction:

2. Answer:

• How many times is area C contained in area A?

• How many times is area E contained in area B?

• How many times is area C contained in area G?

• How many times is area C contained in area D?

• How many times is area E contained in area F?

3. Circle the correct answer.

Using area E to measure the different areas, we get the following results:

• Area A is:
a. 1/16 of T
b. 2/16 of T
c. 4/16 of T

• Area G is:
a. 1/16 of T
b. 3/16 of T
c. 2/16 of T
• Area B is:
a. 4/16 of T
b. 2/16 of T
c. 2/8 of T

• Area F is:
a. 1/8 of T
b. 3/16 of T
c. 2/16 of T

4. Match each piece of the tangram with its corresponding fraction, using different colors.

A 1/8 One eighth

B 1/16 One sixteenth

C 1/4 One fourth

D 1/8 One eighth

E 1/4 One fourth

F 1/16 One sixteenth

G 1/8 One eighth

5. Represent each of the given amounts by coloring the corresponding pieces in the
tangram.

8/16 6/8
3/4 9/16

6. A student shows these results to her teacher. Are they correct? Can you identify the incorrect

ones? Tick or cross as it corresponds inside the parenthesis. Then, correct those

results that you find as not accurate.

• A + B + C = 9/16 of T ( )

• C + E + G = 6/8 of T ( )

• A + B + G + F = 6/8 of T ( )

• C + E = 1/16 of T ( )
