Title: “Present Simple”
Lesson topic: Practicing the use of Present Simple. Special emphasis on 3rd person, singular
Type of lesson: Systematization and revision of knowledge, teaching some new vocabulary
Time: 45 minutes
Lesson aims: - to develop students’ ability to use Present Simple correctly
- to consolidate previously learnt topics (can/can’t)
- to present the topic creatively
- to teach new some vocabulary, especially verbs
- to use listened and read information in exercises
- to develop listening and speaking skills
- to develop students’ general knowledge
Lesson objectives:
Cognitive objectives: by the end of the lesson students will be able:
- to use the Present Simple Tense correctly
- to understand and use new vocabulary and use it in present tense
- to select specific information from a listening exercise and check comprehension
- to express personal opinion and experiences
- to combine audio-visual skills to solve exercises
Affective objectives:
- to create a warm atmosphere for learning
- to give students an active role in the process of learning
- to create interest in the topic
- to make students confident when speaking English

Presentation
Anticipated problems: -some students may not understand the listening exercise
-some students might not participate in activities as expected
- some students might find it difficult to express their opinion
Assumed knowledge: I assume that students already know the main rules of the Present Simple
Tense and have already practiced the use of ‘can/ can’t’ for expressing ability

Lesson stages:

Activity 1. Warm up: Greetings, checking the attendance and homework


Aims: - to create a pleasant atmosphere for the English class;
- to check attendance and the accomplishment of the taught items
- to help Ss feel relaxed
- to check if they have any problems with their homework and correct if
necessary
Procedure: T. Asks Ss “How are you today?”, “Is anybody absent? “ - absents noted in
catalogue.
“ Are you ready to start this English class?”
T. asks Ss what their homework was; (Workbook: 25/1)
Ss read their homework and T corrects if necessary

Activity 2: Revision of the recently learnt topic


Aims: - to attract students’ attention on the lesson
- to attract students’ attention on the form and use of Present Simple 3rd person,
singular
- to revise previously learnt topic: can/ can’t
Procedure: - The teacher shows a Power Point Game
- Ss have to find the right form of the verb presented on the screen

Activity 3: Presentation
Aims:
- T. introduces the new vocabulary related to Phil Collins’ song “Another Day in
Paradise”
- to attract students’ attention on the lesson
- to give Ss an active role in the process of learning
- to enlarge students’ knowledge about the verbs which appear in the song
Procedure: - T presents vocabulary related to the topic using a PPt Presentation
- After the presentation T asks questions to check Ss’ understanding
- Ss place the words and definitions next to the right picture
- Ss answer questions

Procedure:
- The T continues the topic with a listening exercise playing the audio- visual
- Ss solve exercises while listening
- T asks questions related to the topic, Ss answer.

Procedure: - T. asks Ss to underline the verbs written in Present Simple forms on their
worksheets.
- T controls the exercises then asks Ss to write sentences using Present Simple
Tense
