or subtraction of fraction and whole numbers using appropriate problem solving
strategies and tools.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Multiplying fractions and whole numbers

III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Pupils Activity

Preliminary activity
 Prayer
Class please stand and let us pray - Pupils stand up and pray.
(Teacher lead the prayer)
 Greetings - Good morning Ma’am!
Good morning class! - Good morning Classmate!

Well if there is no question about it lets

proceed to our new lesson.

C. Motivation

I have here a problem, who can go to the board

and answer this?

Robert has 3 gallons of paint. He used ¾ of

paint. How many gallons of paint did he used?

Who can answer? - (Pupils raises their hands)

Ok, angel go to the board and answer. 3

- x 3
4

3 3
x
4 1

9
=
4
Excellent! Let’s give 5 claps for Angel.
- (Pupils clap their hands)
Therefore, an illustration can help you to solve
the problem.
So, I have here a pie all you have to do is to
show us how many fourths are there in total?

Yes, Jane proceed to the board and answer the

illustration.

How many fourths are there in total?

9
3 3 9 =
x = 4
4 1 4

There are nine fourth in total. Therefore,

9 1
Robert used gallons of paint or 2 gallons
4 4
of paint.
- Pupils clap their hands.
Excellent! Let us give 5 claps for Jane.

D. Activity

So class, we will have activity. But before that

let me remind you the standards or rules by
doing group activity.

1. Read and follow the direction carefully.

2. Work quietly.
3. Cooperate with the group.
4. Maintain the cleanliness and
orderliness in your working area.

Are we clear class? - All is clear Ma’am.

Nice! So now, I will devide you into 2 groups.

This side will be group 1 and another side is

group 2. I will give each group an activity card.
It contains the problem inside the card, all you
have to do is to write your answer in a given
blank paper. I will give you only 5 minutes to - Yes Ma’am.
finish the activity. Do you understand class?
- (Pupils do the activity)
Very Good! So you may start now.

Individual Activity

Group 1

Multiply the fraction

2 4
x
3 5

 Show your solution

Group 2

1
x3
3

 Show your solution

- Yes Ma’am.

So class, are you done?

Group 1 representative please go to the front
and show your answer. 2 4
x
3 5

2x 4 8
= =
3 x5 15

- Pupils clap their hands.

Amazing! Let’s give 5 claps for group 1.

So let us proceed to the work of group 2.

Group 2 representative please proceed to the
front and show your solution. 1
x3
3

1 3 3
Correct! So class let us give another 5 claps for = 3 x 1 = 3 or 1
the group 2.
- Pupils clap their hands.

E. Analysis

So now class, who can guess what our topic is

all about?
- Multiplication of fraction?
Nice try! It’s a little bit closer.

Other hand to guess? - Multiplying fraction and whole

numbers?
Exactly! Our topic for today is all about
Multiplying fractions and whole numbers. So
class, how to multiply fractions to whole
numbers? Is it easy to multiply fractions to and
whole numbers? Let us see.

Let me explain to you how to multiply

fractions and whole numbers.

Example:

1
What is of 24
4

1 1
Solution: of 24 means x 24
4 4

1 1 24 24
= x 24 = x = or 6
4 4 1 4

If we need to find the part of a whole or a

fractional part of a whole number, we simply
multiply the whole number by the numerator of
the fraction and devide it by denominator of
the fraction.
- Yes Ma’am.
So class, is it easy to multiply fractions and
whole numbers?

F. Abstraction

Why we should know how to multiply fraction

and whole numbers? Is it important to know
- (Varied answers)
how to multiply fractions and whole numbers?
If yes why?

Correct! It is important to know how to

multiply fractions and whole numbers in order
to know or give us the better understanding
about fractions and how to multiply fraction to
whole numbers. In our daily living we can’t
escape math or fractions. We encounter it by
cooking, carpentry, or even in sewing.

G. Application

Okay class, I have here another problem.

2
2
homework. She spent of doing

So class what is asked of a problem? her English homework?
Yes, Rj.
1
- Of an hour doing homework. Spent
2
Very good! how about the given of the 2
of doing English.
problem? Clarisse, please answer. 3

Definitely correct! Who can write number in a 2 1

- x =n
sentence? Yes, Kyle please go to the board and 3 2
answer.

Very good!

Now, who can solve the problem? 2 1 2x 1 2 1

- x = = or
3 2 3x 2 6 3
Yes, Joan go to the board and solve.
- Pupils do the angel clap.
Excellent! Let us give angel clap for Joan.
