MOVAX side grip pile drivers

DON’T DO’s
DON’T EXCEED REFUSAL, AVOID REBOUND
& DON’T EXCEED BEARING TEMPERATURES

Refusal
Less than 250 mm penetration in 4 minutes or 1 mm per
second.

Rebound
Rebound occurs when a large portion of the side grip pile
drivers’ energy is “bounced” back into the pile as a result of
force reflection at the pile tip due to the pile hitting a nearly
impenetrable layer or obstruction. The rebound forces will
be transferred back into the side grip pile driver as a result of
which the U-frame will start “jumping” relative to the vibro
box. In this situation driving should be stopped immediately.

Maximum bearing temperature

The maximum bearing temperature, as measured on the
bearing covers, is 100°C.

REFUSAL
< 250 mm/4 min OR
< 1 mm/s
DON’T ATTEMPT TO HANDLE OR DRIVE
OVERSIZE PILES

Always follow MOVAX’s operating instructions in regards

to the maximum size & weight piles which can be handled
and driven with the specific MOVAX side grip pile driver in
question.

DON’T OVERSPEED
– DON’T RUN TOO SLOW

Maximum RPM
Maximum operation speed during normal conditions is 3000
rpm. Running extensive periods at overspeed will result in
structural failures.

Minimum RPM
Also avoid revolutions below 2300 rpm as low frequencies
can cause stress on the structures leading to failures.
DON’T ROTATE THE PILE IN HORIZON-
TAL POSITION

DO NOT use the rotation function when the pile is in

horizontal position as this will add unwanted stress to
the rotation slew gear.

360°
DON’T MISALIGN THE PILE WITH THE
MOVAX SIDE GRIP PILE DRIVER

The pile shall always be gripped as close to the center of

gravity as practically possible to minimize rotational torque.
Keep the MOVAX side grip pile driver and the pile parallel.
DO NOT flex the absorption rubbers.

DON’T GRIP THE PILE WITH ONLY ONE

PAIR OF PADS

NEVER grip the pile with only one of the two pairs of grip
pads or clamps as this could lead to twisting and damage of
the arms.
The MOVAX side grip pile driver must be clamping the pile
with its full length. The pile must be of the same thickness
between both side grip clamps. A difference in thickness
between the upper and lower clamp can cause breakage of
the side grip-mechanism.
The pile has to be fully inside the bottom clamp whilst
operating.
DON’T BEND THE PILE WITH THE BOTTOM
OR THE SIDE GRIP

Keep the MOVAX side grip pile driver and the pile parallel
when using the bottom grip. Twisting the pile with bucket
cylinder will add unwanted stress to the bottom grip and will
also damage the pile.

DON’T OPEN ARMS/CLAMPS DURING THE

VIBRATION

Jaws must be fully closed and have reached the set clamp
pressure type before starting the vibration;
• Sheet pile arms/clamps 320 bar
• Tube arms/clams 200 bar

Always open arms/clamps only after the vibration has

completely stopped.

NOTE! The pressure shown on the screen is only accurate when the jaws are
first pressurized (closed fully) or when vibrating - when the jaw button is relea-
sed or vibration is stopped the jaw pressure reading will start to drop.
DON’T USE THE SIDE GRIP PILE DRIVER
FOR ANYTHING BUT IT’S INTENDED USE

The MOVAX side grip piler driver is intended to handle,

pitch, drive and extract piles. NEVER push the MOVAX
side grip pile driver against the ground, for example to
lift the tracks or turn the under carriage of the excavator,
to unload/load for transport or for any other purpose.
This will add unwanted stress also to the bottom grip
and absorption rubbers, but mainly to the slew gear.

NEVER use bottom grip for ramming piles; for timber

piles and small OD tube piles use top hitter/all other
type of piles must always be clamped firmly into the
bottom grip.
NOTE!
This leaflet provides a brief summary of the DON’T
DO’s when operating a MOVAX side grip pile driver.

MOVAX Operating and Maintenance Manuals

provide the detailed information which will ensure
the reliability, availability and safe operation of
the MOVAX side grip pile driver. The instructions
provided in the MOVAX Operating and Maintenance
Manuals MUST be followed at all times.
