John.

JOHN BOSCO: Why thank you Liz, so glad to be here tonight to share
my life story and the story of the Salesians.

REPORTER: Great, now we know you are very popular amongst

Catholics. Tell us a little bit about your background. When and where
were you born?

JOHN BOSCO: Well I was born on the 16 August 1815 near Turin, Italy.

REPORTER: Ok. Now, your childhood can’t all have been full of laughs.
Tell us about your family life when you were growing up.

JOHN BOSCO: My mother’s name was Margaret Occhiena.

Father Cafasso, who helped me realize my dream to help young,
rejected boys and Mother Mary.

you became a priest. How and why did you begin the Salesians?
JOHN BOSCO: I began the Salesians so that I could help young and
abandoned people to learn a trade and survive in this world.

REPORTER: How did you help the young boys that you looked after?

JOHN BOSCO: I taught them skills that could get them a job or trade
and taught them about God and the Bible.

REPORTER: One of these young boys seemed different from the others.
Who was he?

JOHN BOSCO: He was Dominic Savio. He was a rather bright boy, who
always tried his hardest. I knew that he had potential and that he was
destined for great things. He was very religious
