Tawan Wachirapaet - 03
Tawan Wachirapaet - 03
At that moment, it took me some time to gather my words. I had this main though about LIFE and TIME. In
the end, I managed to express my opinion on LIFE and TIME in terms of mindset. My Artistic Intentions are
usually a broad topic because I want my purpose to be in general and inspiring to everybody. I want to share
my idea in the simplest way because, for me, the Intention behind the art won’t matter at all if people
misunderstood the expression.
Exploration of Ideas:
“When talking about life, I have
recently been following up on a TV
series called Gray’s Anatomy which is
about a society of surgeons in a
particular hospital. I have gotten a lot
of knowledge from it but mainly, is
that I understand the lifestyle of
doctors. When this inspires me firstly
is a basic pulse line. When I want to
say life is short, I can add a few pulses
followed by a flatline into the artwork
sneakingly like an easter egg or a
small symbol in it.”
Exploration of Ideas:
“Another alternative with this clock idea is a sand
“I also think I need some clocks to clock. Clock high key symbolizes time in general,
symbolize time. As simple as it is but sand clock suggests a countdown which fits
my Artistic Intention. When I googled for sand
since “Life is Short” is difficult to show
clock art, I saw a lot of content being put on the
visually, a clock will symbolize time. top of the sand clock instead of sand which
Although it is still unclear to what made me want to follow it and put something of
extent will the clock be doing in the my own idea to symbolize my Artistic Intention. ”
artwork. ”

Dali’s “Persistence of Memory”
“Easily, this artwork shows that time
is not a factor under the
consciousness. Cut the
unconsciousness thing of this
artwork, I love the way a clock is
portrayed in the art to symbolize time.
It is clear that the clock has something
different which is a clear and intuitive
symbol. ”
Artistic References: - Alighiero
Boetti’s “Gemelli”
“I like how Boetti shows the contrast of
the same object in the different period
of time. I really love the idea of having
the main object and showing different
time periods of it. However, I think it is
pretty unclear when it comes to
symbolizing. I actually have created
this kind of art myself a couple of
years ago with no serious time-based
artistic intention, it was just
creativity.”
Theme:
I plan for my theme to be a little depressed about life and
mysterious, creepy with time.
Technique:
Right now I can only say that it is either between these
options for technique
Digital drawing
Digital collage(using picture to create an artwork)
Medium:
I am using my iPad for this artwork which will fall in the
category of digital art.
Support:
In terms of support, I have no clue of what I’m using because
the Technique, Medium, and Support are the things I usually
figure out on the way of starting to sketch.
Sketches of 1st Idea
Sketches #1: 20 Minutes
“This sketch is a simple one following my
first idea of pulse line. Looking back at it
now makes me realise that it lacks theme
because it is too simple as if there is
nothing to this art. I feel like I should add
more components and content into it. The
flatline is supposed to be indicating death
and the black smokey background should
be depressing. I think I was overthinking
into abstract and forgot to think about the
traces of reality in terms of
communication. The greenish blue pulse
line is just a contrast making the pulse line
stand out. This artwork was honestly
disappointing for me, but it won’t change
the fact that it is my first sketch of the unit.
I hope further on with this unit, I will reflect
and get the most out of this let down
artwork.”
Sketches #2: 72 Minutes
“This second sketch is my first approach
towards the sand clock symbolizing a
countdown. The top of the clock shows a
man jumping to reach a higher cliff
communicating what LIFE is all about;
simply going through challenges and
moving on no matter the results of the
jump. The bottom shows a Grim Reaper in
the darkness symbolizing death and
emptiness. Like in my ideas and artistic
intention, this artwork symbolizes that Life
is just nothing more than a countdown to
the end/death. I like this one on how I used
geometry to simply draw the sand clock
myself which was the challenge of this
sketch.”
Sketches #2: 72 Minutes
“This is the third and final sketch and it is similar to the second
sketch but with deeper and more detailed intention. This third
sketch is basically saying that “Life is short, there is no time to
waste on such things as waiting, before the countdown rings
and the end approaches”. It adds more meaning to the work and
I’m especially proud about this one in terms of the technique.
Unlike the second sketch, I didn’t draw the sand clock myself.
Instead, all I did was use pictures, trim it for the parts I need,
and basically adjust the lightning, the blur to make the cuts
blend in. I am thrilled about how the work turned out to be in a
short amount of time. I think this is just the rough draft with
rough cut, trims and colorings, but from these sketches, I
learned many new techniques about this app. In general, I got
better at using the brush and the add on the pictures of it does
not fit. More importantly, in this third sketch, I learned a new
tool called “Line Tracing” which basically gives imported
pictures on other imported pictures a semi transparent color
making it easy to trim and also more realistic blend into the
background photo. I really like how easy these tools can help me
expand my creativity and ability in art which is one of the main
reasons I will always stick to digital art.”
Color Schemes of all Sketches
in 1st Idea:
BUT...
After finishing all the previous work, I reflected on myself and what I was planning to do. I went back to
review the criterions and one thing that hit me right away was “Pushing the boundaries”. I did some thinking
about how I can “Push” my “Boundaries” to another level. I thought to myself that trying a new technique on
the same app, platform, and pattern is enough to score my some points on the criterions, but it isn’t enough
for me. I wasn’t satisfied with what I came up with. I then got the idea of personally connecting Art to an IDU
project I have featuring Design and Science class. The project is to design the exterior and interior of an Air
Purifier, research the advertising informations in Design class and physically craft the air purifier in
Science class. I decided to connect Arts to Design and decided to both pushing the limits of my technical
ability and the limits of my assigned work for the Air Purifier. Basically, I am pushing my technical
boundaries by creating a 3D model of the Air Purifier focusing on the exterior design as an industrial-art
sort of product. Other than that, I also decided to design an Advertising poster/flyer based on the 3D model.
In other words, these decisions also involve the creativity that is not very obvious. Since my project is
industrial art, creativity is a little bit more complex than just expression because it highly involves function
into it. I plan to try my best to show creativity on my exterior design on the 3D model and the poster.
Although I connected the two classes, I’m turning in different works since I won’t turn in the 3D model into
Design class nor turn in designs as an Arts final product.
Artistic Intention:
Slogan - Fresh Air, Fresh Day
Since my final product is really a marketable product, I see fit to come up with a slogan. I think that slogans are
simple and can communicate in CREATIVE ways. “Fresh Air, Fresh Day” for me is basically advertising the context of
the an air purifier; to provide fresh air. In terms of communication, what I want to communicate through the
product and the advertisement is not completely marketing purposes. Business is one thing. Some may call it the
main purpose of creating and designing products. For me, I see the business side of some innovation as a bonus.
Products and its adverts has their true meaning. Some are too complicated, some are too simple that people look
over it. My air purifier has simple meaning. Simple enough for people to overlook it. Creating, Designing, and
Advertising air purifiers are just like inventing or innovating groundbreaking medical devices, consumables, or
services. I see them as a whole, as a technological development for humans. With my slogan, I want to remind
people, not only the meaning, but also the importance of “Air”. I don’t want people to view air purifiers as optional
health devices. In fact, everybody should try their best to remain healthy. Designing and promoting air purifiers is
also indirectly raising awareness about pollution and for people to take care of their lungs. Just like Elon Musk
leading technologies in terms of AI, Vehicles, and even spaceships. Not only that he is making it affordable, he is also
making his copyrights free for everybody so that many companies can develop their technologies. Elon sees the big
picture which isn’t that their will be more competitors for Tesla or Spacex, but it is that there will be more technical
advancement as a whole. That is what I am trying to portray, using my air purifier to raise awareness of pollution
and the business part is just profit.
Sketch #1:
In the beginning, this is one of the first two ideas
as a concept. I was in the planning stage with no
clue of the actual crafting limitations. I focused
on the car filter in the middle, starting the
sketch out of it. I was planning to buy more fans
to having 4 fans on each corner of the filter and
both sides of of the filter to increase air flow
rate. I planned to just somehow attach the fans
to the filter and cover it with case that looks
exactly like a PC case. I wanted it to be easy for
removal incase I innovate the device so that it
can have changeable filters.
